Gaffney Cordially Invited.
An event that will be of the greatest
interest to the ladies of Gaffney and
vicinity will be the reception to be
given by the National Biscuit Com
pany at 905 Granard street Saturday
afternoon, from two until five o’clock.
Arrangements for the coming enter
tainment are being completed by a
reception committee, consisting of
fifteen special representatives of the
National Biscuit Company, who are
now in the city. They are accompa
nied by a corps of decorators and a
ch’ef, under whose supervision re
freshments will be served. The work
of the decorators, which is already
under way, will result, when finished,
in an almost compltete transforma
tion of the interior of No. 905 Gra
nard street.
This reception is one of a series
which the National Biscuit Company
is holding throughout the State. The
expense will be enormous in the ag
gregate, but the results Justify it. It
is really a campaign of acquaintance,
undertaken for the purpose of showing
the finest baking in the world in the
most practical manner possible. It
is to enable every lady In this city to
realize that the trade mark of the
National Biscuit Company on each
end of a package of biscuit, crackers
and wafers is an absolute guarantee
of the goodness, purity and crisp de-
liciousness of its contents. This
trade mark is always an assurance
that perfect baking has been given
the protection of a package which by
excluding all air, impurity and mois
ture, entirely prevents the possibility
of contamination by dust, germs or
handling.
The refreshments to be served at
the reception tomorrow afternoon
will include many of the most deli
cious products of the National Biscuit
Company. In addition to Uneeda Bis
cuit, there will be Butter Thin Bis
cuit, Graham Crackers^ Oysterettes,
Social Tea Biscuit, Zu Zu Ginger
Snaps.
Among the other delicious products
of the National Biscuit Company are
Nabisco Sugar Wafers and Festino
Almonds—two confections that have
won world-wide popularity because
of their unsual delicacy and goodness.
The equipment carried by the re
ception committee consists of over
half a carload of baggage. This is
largely decorative material, but also
includes the china and silver used in
serving the i^freshments at the re
ception.
Every lady who can possibly be
present tomorrow afternoon, should
by all means do so. An enjoyable
musical program will be rendered by
Mrs. Wm. White, and other features
will contribute to an afternoon of
pleasant entertainment. The recep
tion will be held from two until five
o’clock, and a cordial welcome is as
sured to every guest.

Improvements at the Park.
Mayor Gaffney is preparing to have
the city park improved and beauti
fied. Walkways are being laid off
through it, extending from corner to
corner and one through the center;
and where they cross in the center
of the park a neat pyramid of stones
will be erected, ornamented by ferns
and other plants, and a miniature
fountain with sprayer attached will
be placed in the center of the pyra
mid and furnished with water from
the artesian well.
This work, of course, will add very
much to the beauty of the park, and
seats v ’ll he placed at intervals along
the walks, under the shade trees, for
the benefit of strollers, who are out I
for pleasure and recreation. Mayor
Gaffney is also contemplating having
a hedge row set out along the hack
edge of the park in order to cut off
from the view of passers along the
street the ill looking site in rear of j
it, and the necessary trash and dirt
around the powerhouse.
This is a move in the right direction j
by the city authorities, for Gaffney is ;
in sore need of a nice park.

Theatre last night, given by the la
dies of the city for the benefit of the
public library, was a pronounced suc
cess in every feature—as such things
usually are when they are In the
hands of the good women. Quite a
neat little sum was realized, and
