Ashburnham, Ont., April 18, 1903.—
I think it is only right that I should tell
you what a wonderful effect Chamber

The day before Easter I was so dis

to be able to take any duties the next |

completely disappeared and I was able
to preach three times on Easter Day.
I know that this, rapid and effective

BOMB PROOFS BLOWN TO ATOMS
Bodies of Soldiers Are Torn to Frag
ments—Awful Spectacle.
Before Port Arthur, with the Third
Japanese Army, via Fusan, Dec. 14.—
The effect of dynamite used as on of
fensive weapon in the form of hand
grenades, is instanced in an appalling
manner by the codition of the dead
bodies, which are torn and' unrecog
nizable masses of flesh and hones.
Fragments of hundreds of killed un
earthed from the fllled-in Russian
trenches present a scene of awful hor
ror. The heavy timbers and steel
plates of the bomb proofs were tom
to splinters by shells and dynamite.
The work of removing the dead from
the elopes and crests of 208 Metre Hill
has been completed' on the north side.
The south slopes- are still covered with
bodies buried under the debris of the
trenches and bomb proofs.
The long lines of Japanese dead
laid out on the top of the hill an<£khe
slopes previous to interment present
ed an awful appearance.
Most of the bodies were partially
naked and were horribly torn by
shells.
CLAIMS HE PERFORMED MIRACLE
Raised Young Girl Who Had Besn
Dead Several Hours.
New York, Dec. 14.—-Continuing hid
avowal that all things are possible with
God today as they were in the past,
even to the healing of the sick and ths
raising of the dead. Father Ignatius
of Llanthony, Wales, has preceded,
cables the Herald’s London correspon
dent, ot recount various occasions
which he claims to have performed
miracles.
One miracle, he is quoted as saying,
occurred in 1862, when a young girl
who had been dead two hours arose
at the command. The second was
that of a workman crushed to death
by falling stones while the abbey was
being constructed at Llanthony. This
man is asserted to have walked home
unaided after having been crushed to
a pulp.
Wants Negroes Disfranchised.
Jackson, Miss., Dec. 14.—Governof
Vardaman today made a sensational
speech contradicting the views of John
Sharp Williams regarding the cutting
down of southern congressional repre
sentation. The governor disputed tho
assertion that nobody is disfranched
Mississippi on account of race, and de
clared that It is “time for us ^o quit
lying about this question and make
up our minds right now to faithfully
and honestly tell the truth and declare
the negro shall not he permitted to ex
ercise the franchise.”
Anti-Mosquito League Meete.
New York, Dec. 14.—The second an
nual convention of the National Mos
quito Extermination Society will be
held in this city tomorrow or Friday.
The object of the convention is the
education of the people as to killing
the Insects. Possible legislation to
ward their slaughter and co-operation
in getting the country rid of the in
sects. Specimens of all kinds will be
exhibited together with the small fish
that are active in destroying the lar

filed four contests against George

were committed by the county com

only thing that has relieved me. Would
not be without it. Have doctored with
