is as happy as a duck in a puddle of
water.

James Burgess, a hustling farmer,
was in the city Tuesday. He had fin
ished sowing wheat the Monday before
the rain, while the ground was in fine

The Missionary Pally Day will be

exercises will consist of recitations
and singing by the children.

Death of a Child.
Carl, the infant son of Mr. and Mrs.
W. H. Bright, died Sunday night and
was buried Monday at Draytonville.
The New Bank Building.
The brick work on the new National
Bank building has been completed,
and the carpenters are now r adding the
“finishing touches.”
The structure is a model of beauty
and fine workmanship, and it elicits
admiring remarks from many passers
along the street. When completed it
will be as handsome a building as
can be found in any city many times
the size of Gaffney. President Ross
hopes to occupy it by the first of Jan
uary.
Court Proceedings.
A verdict in the case of Jas. L. Ram
sey against the Gaffney Manufactur
ing Company had not been reached
Monday when The Ledger went to
press. The verdict was in favor of
the defendant.
The next case tried was Lucy Ha-
gins against the Aetna Life Insur
ance Company. The verdict in this
case was for the defendant.
Wednesday morning the case of
Wm. F. Moore against Drs. Nesbit and
Allen was taken up, and was not con
cluded up to the time court adjourned
until this (Friday) morning.

A Foreign Artist Coming.
Siemens, the celebrated German pi
anist, will give a grand pianoforte re
cital in the auditorium at Limestone
College Friday evening, December 2,
at 8 o’clock.
Miss Siemens is one of the very
greatest lady pianists, and as she is
the first foreign artist to appear here
this season .it is hoped that there will
be a large aittendance.
Miss Siemens has made several
Southern tours, playing with great
success in Atlanta, Columbia, Spartan
burg and Charleston.
