Bear in mind that next week, October 24th to 29th, is the DETERMINATION SALE at The Dixie. Never before have you seen goods
going as cheap as they will then go. Our three large stores have compelled us to buy heavily this season, and we bought too much. We
are bound to unload; the goods must go. We need the money, so the goods are marked at “get money” prices, and we are going to get the
cash if you need the goods. January is the usual month for sales to get rid of the old stock that accumulates during the year, but we are
going to give you a chance of your life to buy goods. $ 10,000 worth of Clothing, Hats, Shoes, Dry Goods, Gents’ Furnishings, Suits, Milli
nery, etc., put on the market right at the season of the year when everybody has to buy goods. Put your wants off and let your dollar da
double duty during this sale. We are strictly one price to all. Your dollar is as good as your neighbor’s. The first man, woman or child
that trades $ 10.00 worth with us the first morning of the sale gets absolutely free of charge a pair of $2.50 shoes.

Two Fires.
The fire alarm was sounded Satur
day afternoon, and the whistle
shrieked long and vigorously. The
streeta were soon thronged with peo
ple looking for the fire, which was
finally discovered to be at the cotton
gin of the Victor Oil company, the
ropf of which was burning. The lire
company turned out and the flames
were soon extinguished and before
any material damage was done, the
extent of the damage being a small
hole burned In the roof.
It was thought the Are started from
a match which had been carelessly
dropped by some one around the gin,
as Mr. Lipscomb found a package of
tobacco lying near by, indicating
that some thoughtless person bad
been smoking In the vicinity of the
place where the fire was first discov
ered.
It Is fortunate that the fire was ex
tinguished before it had made much
progress.
There was another Are Sunday af
ternoon on R. E. Linder’s place near
the city. A barn belonging to Wash
Lipscomb, colored, was destroyed, to
gether with a bale of cotton, a wagon,
and several hundred bundles of fod
der. It is not known just how the fire
originated.

A Coming Marriage.
The following from the San Fran
cisco, Cal., Chronicle of Oct. 2nd, will
be of interest to Gaffney people:
“An announcement which will
prove of great interest, especially in
army circles, Is that of the engage
ment of Miss Ethel Sarratt, of South
Carolina, to Lieutenant Samuel Tal
bot, Twenty-eighth Infantry, United
States Army, who is at present sta
tioned at the Presidio, but who leaves
in a few days for his home in Vir
ginia.
"Miss Sarratt is a sister of Captain
Edward O. Sarratt, Artillery Corps,
United States Army, who was until
very recently at the Presidio, and It
was during a visit to her brother that
Miss Sarratt and Mr. Talbot met.
"No date has been arranged for the
wedding, but it will be celebrated
sometimo in November,
“Miss Sarratt has many friends
here and it is greatly regretted that
the Twenty-eighth is ordered away,
so that she will not come here as a
bride. Mr. Talbot is one of the most
popular young offleers at the Presidio,
having been especially active in so
cial affairs at the post, and everyone
is congratulating him most heartily
and at the same time regretting his
coming departure.’’
Miss Sarratt is a resident of this
city where she has a host of admir
ers. all of whom likewise congratulate
Lieu: *»rt Talbot on his good for-
tune h for her all the happi-
t is life can give.
