His case was so severe that he had to have the members of the crew wait upon him and Mr. Clifford was called and consulted. He told them he had a medicine in the form of Chamberlain’s Colic. August 3.—10 a. m.—The Jap anese defeated the Russians at Tomu Cheng (Simoucheng) and drove them toward Hai Cheng in a sharp fight, which began last Saturday and ende on Sunday. The Russians left 1,500 dead on the field and lost six,guns. The Russians occupied a range of high hills north of Tomu Chc-ng which were strongly defended with covered trenches, fortress an« covered em placements, which consumed months ! in con tructing. The Japs seized a range of heights to the southward on Saturday. They began the attack at daylight on Sun- . day. The Japanese left wing en- countered severe opposition. Heretofore the government has bought its supply of blanks from private concerns. The mint here is the one in the United States which makes cents and nicki Is, and there will be a record- breaking production. In the last four months of the year the demand for subsidiary coins is so great that the $100.000.000 it is estimated will be ex hausted by February. This lias been a record making year at the mint, in one month more gold was coined than at any other similar time. Savannah, Ga., August 3.—The Cen tral of Georgia railroad, for the firs time since it- reorganization, has de clared a dividend on the second income Tenuis. On preferred bonds a divi dend of 5 per cent was declared and on the sceonds a dividend of 2 per cent. There are $4,000,000 worth oT firsts and $7,000,000 worth of seconds, mak ing the total dividends declared on the bonds amount to $340,000. The di vidends are payable Oct. 1. Jackson, Miss., August 3.—The state election commission, which is compos ed of the governor, secretary of state and attorney general, will at its next meeting use a different method ol choosing county electors. Heretofore It has been customary to plac-T a negro on the commission in some of the delta counties where there are no white Republicans, as the law requires that the Republican partw be represented, but the state commission has decided this year to have no negroes on any county commission. They will con tinue the custom of having one Repub lican and two Democrats and the ne gro will not he selected for the place.
