w’as first discovered about 4:30. It
evidently started on the inside, as
the watchman passed the store a few
moments before and saw no signs
Just how it started no one will ever
know. The building was a wooden
one and the flames spread rapidly and
it required skillful work to confine
it to the building and prevent what
might have been a disastrous confla
gration. Heroic efforts saved Senator
McCall’s store on one side and the old
Jennings residence on the other. The
building and stock were valued at
about $7,000. There was $3,000 insur
ance on the stock.

An Approaching Marriage.
Invitations are out announcing the
coming marriage of Mr. Clarence E.
Hamrick and Miss Ua Mattie Jones,
both of this city. The ceremony will
be performed on the evening of the
12th inst. in the Cherokee Avenue
Baptist church in this city. They are
popular young people and have the
best wishes of their many friends.
