On account of the illness of Miss Sanford, of Georgia, the library en tertainment bas been postponed in definitely. County Supervisor Whelchel bought a pair of fine mules for the county this week from the Gaffney Live Stock Co. The many friends of Mr. J. Y. Meetz are glad to see him on the streets again after several days con finement to ids home by sickness. One of the fine mules belonging to the city ran away with a cart Wed nesday and broke several of its ribs. It will be unfit for work for some time. A jolly crowd from the Limestone Street M E. church visited the par sonage last Saturday evening with many tokens of their esteem for their pastor. After prayer by the pastor they returned to their homes. The iron bridge being built across Pacolet river at the new crossing near Grindall Shoals, by Union and Chero kee counties, will he completed this week. Try us. zen and farmer of this county, whose home was at Webster, died at his home yesterday morning about 6 o'clock, after an illness of only about thirty hours. The Gaffney Gify Land and' . 'Co. Mr. Tate was sixty years old and was at the time of his death county pension commissioner of this county, and was an efficient officer. Mr. Tate was a member of church, was a large farmer, a patriotic citizen, a kind neighbor and a devoted husband and father. He leaves a wife and six children. When the war between the States began he volunteered in the spring l of 18G1 and served continuously to the end and was with Gen. Lee at Ap pomattox when he surrendered. He was a member of the 5th South Caro lina Volunteers. Mr. Tate probably was in as many fights during the war as any soldier in the army of North ern Virginia, in which he served with conspicuous bravery and gallantry, which elicited the praises of his commanders, both as an officer and soldier. It is related that Col. A.
