New York, April 13.—In a debate before the Aldine club on labor unions, John J. Kirby,, Jr., president of the Employers’ association of Dayton, O., and a member of the executive com mittee of the Citizens’ Industrial Asso elation of America, has declared the record of unions “is black with shame, injustice, crime and defiance of law. He was opposed by Professor John R. Commons, who held that the unions •re a necessary product of the present industrial system. After discussing trades unions gen erally, Mr. Kirby declared that times are changing rapidly and added that lican convention tomorrow the inter est increases. P is now conceded by all factions that Senators Elkin and Scott, and Hon. J. L. Caldwell, of Huntington, will be three of the delegates at large, but an interesting contest is on be tween Governor A. B. White and Ex- Governor Atkinson, now United States district attorney, for a place on the delegation. It seems to be under stood now that the convention will in sist on instructing for Elkins for Vice President,, notwithstanding that gen tleman has not yet announced that he Is a candidate. MARRIES CIRCUS PERFORMER. Prince Hohenlohe Reported to Have Married Madame Helga. New York, April 13.—Prince Huge Hohenlohe has married Madame Hel ga, a beautiful circus equestrienne, ac cording to an American dispatch from Berlin. The prince’s marriage violates the family laws which provide the for feiture of rank in the event of such an alliance. Henceforth he will be known as Count Bermesberg. Another Prince Hohenlohe married a Viennese actress. Bierut, Syria, via Port Said, April 13.—The governor of Beirut, the scene of the attempt to kill United States Vice Consul Magellson last August was attacked and fired on April 11 by soldiers who were dissatisfied be cause their pay was in arrears. His guards returned the fire, wounding eight persons. All is now quiet. ?.t arr.er Goes Aground. New York. April 13.—The Atlantic transport steamer Missouri, which sailed ted a; for Havre, went aground in Gedney channel at the entrance oi New York harbor. An effort will be made at high tide this evening to float her. Police Raid Prize Fight. New York. April 13.—The police raided the prize light, today at Broad way and Sixty-fifth street and took ir»0 prisoners including the alleged principals. The fighters and many of the men in the crowd were ne groes. Change In Superintendency. St. Louis, April 13.—A. F Davidson, president of the St. Louis and Sar. A white jury decided that the negro nun had not suffered sufficient impairment of their rights to justify a fine. D. R. Cooper, and Daniel Robinson, the. negro., complaints, entered a Chinese restaurant on March 29, and asked to be served. The Chinamen in charge said they were out of the dishes desired. Thereupon the two negro men departed and presently re turned with constables, who arrested the owners of the cafe. April 13.—Latei returns from the Democratic primary in the sixtli congressional districl with every county represented in full except one. which is estimated, plaof the majority Congressman J. H. Bank head over Captain It. P. Hobson, al 794. Captain Hobson today conced ed his defeat, hut said he would not send congratulations to Bankhead un til after the official count. He add ed that he iiad no regrets, but sympa thized deeply with his friends whe worked so faithfully for his nomina tion. April 13.—The imposing fu neral service over the remains of thf late Queen Isabella today in the pal ace of Castille was attended by offi cials and diplomats. A large detach ment of French troops rendered mili tary honors. As the procession crossed the Place du I^aConcorde a battery of anillery fired a salute. A royal train bore the body to Madrid. Candidates for Congress Will Have Another Debate. Gainesville. Ga., April 13.—An im promptu joint debate between Con gressman Carter Tate, of the ninth district, and Colonel Thomas M. Bell, who is contesting for Mr. Tate’s seat occurred yesterday at Cleveland, and it was a most spirited encounter. Both men were at their best, ami their frequent references to each other were met with liberal applause. It is said that the meeting was an unexpected one to Mr. Tate, as he did not know Colonel Bell was in that vi cinity. The two gentlemen went freely into each other’s records ami matters were lively from the jump. They will meet again, it is announc ed, and Gainesville will probably be the scene of operations this time. A great heart is grateful for little things, says the philosopher. Macon, Ga., April 13.—The Georgia Medical association, one of the most learned bodies of men in the state, will convene in annual session in Ma con April 20, and will remain in con vention three days. It will be thfl fifty-fifth annual convention and will be more largely attended than any ol the session preceeding it. The pro gram as prepared is one full of inter est. Denies Illness of Pope.
