McNeal was shot and instantly killed
by his fp.tl r-in-law. Henry Cook, near
Pearson, in Coffee County, this morn
ing.
The killing was the Un&i result of
a row between the parties which has
been going on for several days. Mc
Neal married Cook’s daughter a short
time ago. and there has been trouble
between the couple.
About 2 miles out from Pearson this
morning the'parties met. It is charged
Cook ordered McNeal to get out oi
his buggy and McNeal did not, where
upon Cook pulled his pistol and tired
the first shot, striking McNeal in the
mouth; that the second shot from
Cook’s pistol struck his son-in-iaw in
the breast: that the wounded man fell
and was again shot by Cook.
McNeal died almost instantly and
Cook left the scene of the killing, g>>

St. Petersourg, March 30.—A lafei
official dispatch from General Mish-
tchenko reports that on the authori
ty of the inhabitants of Cheng Jff
Korea, the Japanese lost 40 men kill
ed. 100 men wounded and a number ol
horses during the fighting there Mon
day. The Japanese employed 500
Koreans to carry their wounded t<3
Anju. General Mishtchenko adds that

The above, which was dated March
29, was forwarded to the emperor to
day by General Kuropatkin.
He Carried Fifty-Three Arkansas
Counties—Wood Carried 18.
Little Rock, Ark., March 30.—Re
turns have been received from 71 out
of 75 counties, and these show that
Governor Jefferson Davis carried 53,
and Judge Wood 18 counties in the
Democratic state primaries last Sat
urday. The counties carried by Gov
ernor Davis are entitled to 302 dele
gates in the state convention.
The number necessary to nominate
is 222. Judge Wood has conceded
that on the face of the returns he has
not enough counties to win the nomi
nation. 1 t he will appeal to the state
convention and contest the vote as re
turned in a number of counties.
Next Saturday each county will hold
a convention for the purpose of elect
ing delegates to the state convention,
indications are that contesting dele
gations will be sent from a dozen or
more counties.
