IVINECARDUI Fast Train Collided with the Rear Enc of a Stalled Empty One—Passengers Thrown Into Heap on Floor Amidst Broken Planks and Glass. New York, Feb. 24.—At least 20 per tons have been injured, in collision on the Transit elevated Yorii. In the panic that followed the crash many passengers were severely cut and bruised while trying to escape from the cars. The wrecked train was approaching l station having made the run from the Brooklyn bridge when it collided with the rear end of a stalled empty tram. The motor car of the loaded train was shattered, and passengers were thrown into a heap on the floor amidst broken planks and glass. Metal work came in contact with the fully charged third rail, and there was a weird electric display that add ed further to the terror of the passen gers. The station platform alone helh the car from falling into the street. Police soon arrived and succeeded in reassuring the passengers , thus averting a serious stampede. PERSONELL OF COMMISSION. C., Feb. 24.—A mes- rage received this morning from Mar shall tells of a deplorable tragedy that w tr enacted in Ca. »ornia creek, in Madison county. Tu day night According to the Marshall informa- th n a young man named Hensley, sou ol N. Hensley, and a daughter of Tom Hess eloped Tuesday or Sunday night and were married. Learning of the elopement and the maniage the father of the bride sent for the young folks to return to his home. The bride and groom, thinking that Kess wished them to return to receive bi^. plessing, went to 'he former home of the bride. When Mr. and Mrs. Hensley entered the Kess home the father or the bride drew his pistol ard shot his daughter, inflicting, it is ft^ed. wounds that will prove fatal. ! Young Hensley then turned upon his father-in-law, wrenched the pistol from his hands and shot the man lead. It is not known whether or not Hens ley has been arrested. Washington, Feb. 24.—The personel) of the new isthmian canal commission as origina,.., constituted by President Roosevelt was as follows: Rtar Admiral John G. Walker, U S. N , retired; General George W. Da vis, U. S. A., retired; Colonel Frank Hecker, of Detroit; Alfred Noble, en gineer of the Pennsylvania railroad; John Garber, mining lawyer, of San Francisco; B. M. Harrod, engineer from the Mississippi commission. New Orleans, and William Barclay Par sons, of New' York. Mr Parsons is the chief engineer of the sub-way in New York, and is re garded as among the leaders on his profession in this country. Mr. Gar her already has declined appointment to the committee, because his accep tance would Interfere with his private practice. The probability today Is that Mr. Noble also will decline the appointment tendered to him. In th place of Mr. Garber, It Is believed t’ appointment will be tendreed to C. Ewsld Gronsky, of San Francisco, a distinguished hydraulic engineer. No reply as to his acceptance has yet been received. Whether Mr. Pareons will accept the appointment remains to be learned. It has not been determined and can not be until formal acceptances hav* been received from several appointees when the personnel of the commission wfll bo sent to the senate. The pres ident hopes, however, to have the completed list read yin a few days. The Famous Dodge Divorce Suit Still In Court. New' York, Feb. 24.—Banker Cbas. W. Morse, former president of the American Ice company, whose mar riage to Mrs. Clernence Dodge, was complicated through the annullment of the Dodge divorce, necessitating the divorce of Mr. and Mrs. Morse, has epplied to Justice Clarke of the supreme court for permission to in- v«ne In the original divorce action, and ask that the order application of the divorce be set aside and the de cree of divorce reinstated, so that the petitioner’s marriage may be re-estab lished. Tbo Dodge matter has been under Investigation for several days by the grand jury which finally placed the case before Recorder Goff with the statement that Banker Morse had re fused to answer Its questions. Dodge is now under arrest In Tex as MURRAY SHOT FROM AMBUSH. Coa«t Line Section Foreman Victim of Assassin’s Gun. Savannah, Ga., Feb. 24.—Section Foreman L. A. Murray, of the Atlantic Coast Line, was murdered at a point about a mile and a half from Wal- thourville, Liberty county, Tuesday afternoon. The assassin fired at Murray from ambush, striking him In the face and killing him instantly. Murray's men started toward him, whereupon the assassin fired upon thorn also, one of the negroes being hit in the arm. Murray is not known to have had any enemies. ROBBERS GET $90,000. Cajori of Colorado college and Professor Wolcot of the State School of Mines report that investigation ma^e by them have shown that radio aotivit y is the source of the tberapeu tic dualities of the waters at Glen wod Bprings, Cebolta springs and at Pagosa springs. Heavily in Mexico. Chicago, Feb. 24.—A dispatch t The Tribune from El Paso, Tex., says: It as just become known here that the Wells-Fargo Express company was robbed of $90,000 two weeks ago at Irapuato, Mexico. Details are lack ing. Superintendent Christenson, of San Francisco, Superintendent Davis of El Paso and several deputies are now at Irapauto, endeavoring to run down the missing coin and locate the tBieves. Thirteen-Year-Old Highwayman. Columbus, Ga., Feb. 24.—Phenix City, Ala., has produced a 13-year-old highwayman. Tuesday afternoon as the 6-year-old son of Mrs. Hickman of that cljy, was carrying a piece of money and a note to a storekeeper, a little negro, apparently about 13 year* of age, caught sight of the money in the hand of the little messenger, threw the child down and took the money from him. The police are now looking for the small highway man The amount obtained from the boy was 25 cents. Highway robbery is a banging crime in Alabama. Kansas City, Feb. 24.—William Ru dolph, the Union, Mo., bank robber, paidoned Tuesday from the Kansas penitentiary by Governor Bailey, left tbJ>t Institution at Lansing today, in charge of Missouri officers, for Frank lin County, Mo., where*he will bo tried for the murder of Detective Charles J. Chicago, Feb. 24.—Sophia Gab, whose birth antedated the revolution ary war, If her assertions were car rect. and who was supposed to have been the oldest woman in Chicago, is dead at the home for aged and infirm colored people. She was 129 years of age. According to the aged wo man's statement, she was born In Vir ginia In 1775, before the declaration of Independence. She lived on the plan tation where she was born, until she was freed by the proclamation of Pres ident Lincoln.
