Limestone College and the city school 0 observed Washington’s birth day by taking a holiday yesterday. N. H Littlejohn has been appoint ed a member of the county board of control in place of T. Davenport, re signed. Sunday opened on us with a light rain falling and everything covered with ice. Both continued through the day. Prater Smith has been appointed township commissioner of White Plains township, vice J. B. Brown, resigned. Prayer-meeting at the Presbyterian church this week will be on Thurs day evening instead of Wednesday evening, as usual. The ground hog was right in the middle of his senses when he went back into bis hole on the 2nd inst., to avoid approaching bad weather. There is much interest still taken in the killing of George Brown on the 6th inst. Many think that further investigation would reveal much. •‘Heart of Alabama" at Star Thea tre next Friday night, Feb. 26th, with Mr. J. O. Champion and a se lect cast of local talent. Don’t miss it. Every few weeks there is a rush of the crowd to the rear of the block in which is ‘‘the great moral institu tion" and a few minutes after one or more men are marched off to the city prison. Saturday after the rush one was carried to the city prison and an other to a surgeon’s office to see how badly he bad been cut. Inadvertently Omitted. Andy Fortenberry, two white men, got into a row behind the block in which the dispensary is located, in which Fortenberry wa* very badly cut with a knife. Gilfillin was arres ted and Fortenberry was carried to a surgeon for treatment. We learn that bis injuries are not serious. Gilfillin was tried by the mayor yesterday morning and fined ten dollars.
