Tbe Moses Wood Chapter of the Daughters of the Confederacy pre sented crosses of honor to the old soldiers, whose names have appeared in several issues of The Ledger, in the court house on last Tuesday, the , birthday of General R. E, Lee. The meeting was opened with prayer by Rev. W. R. Potter; and Dr. Lee Davis Lodge delivered one of tbe ablest and most appropriate addresses we ever heard. Tbe whole program was beau tifully carried out by the patriotic daughters Miss Gertrude Ballenger read tbe rules governing the daughters in giving crosses of honor and Mrs. W. F. Brown, who presided, read a beautiful address defining the object and motive of tbeir organization. Af ter which she pinned the crosses on | tbe veterans. The exercises were then closed with prayer. First Baptist Church Notes. There were two good c&ngregations last Sabbath and there were three ad ditions by letter at night. Next Sab bath at 11 o’clock Dr. Simms' subject will be, "Sowers and Reapers Rejoic ing Together," and at night, ‘ The Second Temptation." At tbe close of tbe morning service tbe church will appoint committees for tbe year. All members are re quested to be present. Sunday school at 9:45 a m.
