Donald Ford, son of one of the
wealthiest mine owners of Colorado
Springs, Colo., risked his life by enter
ing a precipitation tank in Telluride
reduction mill the other day to drag
out the body of Howard Morley, the
foreman, under whom be worked, says
a dispatch from Colorado Springs.
Both were overcome by the chlorine
gas, and Ford was unconscious eight
horn's. Had he remained in the vat a
half minute longer he would have died.
Both men were rescued by other em
ployees, who chopped a hole in the
bottom of the vat Ford, who is nine
teen years old, is studying to be a
mining engineer and is mastering all
the branches in the mill.

Subpoenaed.
Binghamton, N. Y., Dec. 30.—It is
understood that President Roosevelt,
Senator T. C. Platt, J. Pierpont Mor
gan and other prorndnent men will be
subpoenaed as witnesses for the trial
of the action of A. W. Wales, of this
city, against President John Mitchell
to recover $200,000 for suggesting the
plan which Mr. Wales claims was fol
lowed in settling the big anthracite
coal strike a year ago.
The case is on the calendar for the
term of supreme court to convene in
this city next .Monday. It is not
known whether it will be reached for
trial at this term.

Dunning, of Columbia university, pre
sided today over the meeting of the
American Historical Society in Tu-
