The weather continues dry and warm, a fine time forgathering crops, i and Cherokee farmers are using it i for all it is worth; but the ground is rather bard for fall plowing, though many of our farmers are at it mak ing preparation to sow wheat. We learn that Hamlet Horn, who was so badly hurt at this place by a train on the doutbern Saturday after noon and wno was carried to the home of his father at Cherokee Falls dun- day moruiug, is doing very well, with prospects of a speedy recovery. Miss Fannie Corry lias accepted a position to teach music at Winthrop College and has gone to assume her duties. Miss Corry is a graduate of the musical department of Limestone College, has had experience in teach ing and is a valuable acquisition to the faculty of Winthrop. Prof. W. F. McArthur has left with us a sweet potato that is three feet long. The Professor is a success as a turmer. He has grown his potatoes to a marvelous length and if he can thicken them now in proportion to their length, he will make himself and Cherokee county famous. Mr. A. B. Harris, of dpartarburg, has accepted a position at the Com j pany store at this place and is none engaged in the clothing and shoe department. Mr. Harris is a young man of business qualifications and makes a valuable addition to Mr. Eison’s polite and efficient force. The merchants are busy from early morn till sometimes late at night and seem to be doing a big business.
