Directors of Natloni! Hank Decide to Krect
a Handsome One.
At a meeting of the directors of the
Natiooal Bank of Gaffney held in the
office of the bank Tuesday morning,
it was determined to commence at
the earliest possible momeot the erec
tion of a handsome new home for the
bank. Several sites were discussed
and it was finally agreed that the new
building would be erected ou the
northeast corner of Limestone and
Frederick streets, the site now
occuoied by W, O. Johnson. This
property belongs to Messrs. Carroll
& Stacy, who also own the two val
uable building sites adjoining. It
will be interesting to know that
Messrs. Carroll ife Stacy will at the
same time improve their property by
erecting thereon two handsome busi
ness bouses.
The new banking house will be one
of the handsomest and most co nvec-
ient in the State. It will be a credit
to the banking institution and an 1
ornament to the town and county
The plans have not yet been made
but the order is in the hands of the
architect, and just as soon as they can
be completed and the material placed
on the ground the work of construc
tion will begin. In talking with a
Ledger man concerning the new
ouilding President Stacy said:
“It is our purpose to have the
building inclosed before cold weather
sets io. We will erect a tfcilding
that will he sufficient for the needs of
1 the bank for many years to come.
It will be of the latest architectural
style and the most improved work
manship. We desire to build for the
future and in doing so will .endeavor
to build something that is both hand
some and commodious.”
The site selected is one. of the pret
tiest in Gaffney. It is in the heart
of the business district. A number
of small wooden structures now oc
cupy the ground and this new build- ;
ir.g, together with the buildings to be
erected b/ Me8<srs. Carroll & Stacy, ;
will add materially to the appearance
of the town. As soon as the plans
and specifications arrive we will at
tempt a description in detail of the
work that is to be undertaken.
Plana for Another Hlock.
Judged. E. Webster and Clerk of
Court |J. Eb. Jefferies are having
plans made for a block of brick build
ings ou their property on Robinson
street. The block will be built as
soon as plans can perfected and the
miterial secured. It will contain
four store rooms fronting on Robin
son street, which will give access to
the second story of the block, which
will be arranged in the most convoni-
ent and modern manner for hotel
purposes. This second story will
contain about twenty bed rooms of
ample size, ali having outside win-
■ dows, also commodious parlors, din
ing room, kitebeu, dressing and
bath rooms, all of which will be sup
plied wifc'i water, electric lights, and
all other moderatconveDieDces-
When this block is completed it
will be one of the largest single blocks
in the city, with a handsomely de
signed front, conveuient store rooms,
and will be a credit to the taste
and enterprise of the owners and an
| ornament to our growing city.
Picnic at Providence.
Th?re will be a picnic at Provi-
! dence church today (Friday). Quite
a gathering of the young people is
expected; plenty of good things to
eat will be on the grounds and the
