Joseph Pryor, a successful farmer

Mrs Shelton, of Mt. Airy, Va., is
in the city visiting her sister, Miss
Ida Lemmons, on Peach Tree street.
Mr. aud Mrs Sam Glary are visit

Miss Ruth Littlejohn, the charm
ing little daughter of Ex-Treasurer
Littlejohn, went to Georgia with her
uncle, J E Watkins, last week and
will spend some time in Atlanta and
O'her points in the State.
Chas. M. Smith, cashier of the
Merchants and Planters Bank, took a
few days off last week spent some
time in Atlanta, Ga.
M. M. Tate favored The Ledger
with a call Saturday.
John M. Daniel, of Thickety, spent
some time in the city Saturdiy and
called to see The Ledger.
Scott Jolly, a prominent citizen of
Ezells, made a business trip to the
city Saturday.
H. Z. Hicks, of Ezells, was a busi
ness visitor in the city Saturday.
Joseph Price, one of the county’s
old reliables, came to the city Satur
day.
S. F. Estes, of Etta Jane, one of
the county’s old and sterling farmers,

Light rains fell here yesterday.
Crops are growing well and most
them are in good condition.
C. H. Brown has accepted a posi
tion with W. J. Maness.
Frank Deal aud Hugh Davidson,
of Blacksburg, are at Cherokee FalU,
learning the mill business.
Workmen are moving right along
with the work on the Maria Louisa
Infirmary at Limestone College.
After a light rain Sunday after
noon the temperature fell several
degrees.
Business was good in the city Sat
urday. It was booming at the dispen
sary for several hours in the after
noon.
Workmen have made fair progress
on the Cherokee Drug Company’s new
store. The walls of the first story are
about completed.
J. R. Jefferies was the onlyonewho
stood the examination for the South
Carolina College scholarship before
the county board of education Friday.
Dr. J. N. Nesbitt received some
slight injuries Saturday by his horse
becoming restive while the doctor
was standing near his buggy wheels.
He is all right now.
The handsome additions recently
made by Mr. J. I. Sarratt on his
Limestone street store are about com
pleted and makes it one of the most
commodious and handsome in the
city.
A little fight on Limestone street
Saturday afternoon between two city
men brought the crowd out and filled
up the street like “Broadway on
Salesday.”
Mr. Logan Crocker and Miss Lilly
Maness, both of this city, were mar
ried Sunday by Rev. G. P. Hamrick.
We congratulate Mr. Crocker on his
lucky catch and wish for them both a
long, happy and useful life.
There was a big crowd in the city
Saturday. Every section of the
county was represented and all seemed
( cheerful and gave the usual account
this year of the crops small but grow
ing well.
A young man named Kitchens
stepped on a nail yesterday while
assisting in tearing down the old al-
! liance warehouse. It went through
his shoe and more than an inch into

The large alliance warehouse that
the farmers built in Gaffney at a cost
to them of more than $3,000 will soon
be a thing of the past. It was sold
recently for a song and the owner, J.
Eb Jefferies, is tearing it down and^will
use the lumber to build cottages with.
Last Wednesday a regular blue tail
chicken hawk lit down in Mr. Johrson
Burgess’ yard at the Lead Mine, 1
about four miles from town, and
jaugbt a young chicken. The mother
of the chicken went for the hawk like
an arrow and never loosed it till she
killed it. Mr. Burgess picked up the
hawk and said he would never part
with that hen.
