J. 0. Darby, J. Mac Caldwell, C. E. Fant and T. J. Cunningham went to Char lotte Thursday moruing for the pur pose of inspecting the macadamized roads of Mecklenburg county. They drove over most of the improved high ways of the county at a speed of 8 ! miles an hour with ease. Mr. Darby 1 says the Mecklenburg roads are splen- I did but the methods used in macadam I izing them are more expensive than is necessary. “The party went from Charlotte to i Gaffney and inspected the maebihery j and methods employed in Cherokee county. Beavkkdam, April 27 :—The farm ers put in time for a few days last week. Saturday work was halted by the rain. A good many of iour neighbors have planted cotton seed, while others are not through putting in grain. The frost last Friday morning was pretty heavy for this time of the year, but the fruit was not seriously dam aged. Rev. C. M. Teaie fi'led Rev R J Tate’s appointment here yesterday, and preached a good sermon. The service was attended by the largest congregation that we have seen here for some time. Mr. A E Tindall, of Cowpens, visited his brother, Mr. H. E Tindall, of this place, yesterday. Messrs. Champ. Cooper and Ed Harris, of Algood, were visiting here yesterday. Come again, boys. Miss Pearl, the daughter of Mr Thomas Byars, is on the sick list, but we hope she will soon be well again The debating society at this place is progressing nicely. Miss Mamie Tindall, of Cowpens visited Miss Bessie Davidson yester day Rev. A. D. Davidson went to Mt. Ararat Saturday to fill his appoint ment there onthtt day and yester day. Mrs. W. F.
