12th. 13th and 11th.
Several farmers interviewed yester
day state that the frost of Sunday
morning did not injure the fruit.
Mr. J. M. Nelson has moved his
family into the commodious rooms
over his store on Limestone street.
Mr. It. C. Howard, who was Injured
in a runaway some days ago, is able
to be on the street by the aid of
crutches.
The Limestone Springs Lime Com
pany is changing tracks ot its dummy
road so as to make them conform to
the necessities produced by the erec
tion of its new kilns.
The partition sale of the city real
estate of the late Col. W. VV. Gaffney
was continued Tuesday by Sheriff
Thomas, when the remainder of the
property advertised was sold. The
lots sold on Monday and Tuesday,
belonging to the estate, amounted to
$26,580 00.
The farmers got in two days of
good plowing Monday ana Tuesday,
hut Tuesday night the rain came
and knocked them out again
Wednesday and yesterday. They said
yesterday they thought they could
start the plows again this morning.
Farm work is away behind.
One of the most pitiful spectacles
we have seen for a long time was a
drunk boy, apparently not over twelve
years old, being carried through the
streets by the city officers. We hope
the officers will pursue the case fur
ther and see who furnished him the
liquor, and punish him for it.
Mer.srs. D. J. Hamrick and J. L.
Pruett, of Boiling Springs, N. C., will
in the next few days open up a place
in Gaffney for the manufacture of
marble and granite monuments. We
welcome Messrs. Hamrick and Pruett
to our city, and as they will fill a va
cant business gap in the city, success
awaits them. We learn they will locate
on Granard street.
Mr. Sholer has retired from the
agency of the Houthern in Gaffney,
and Wednesday Mr. J. C. Hollis was
installed as agent. Mr. Hollis is in
bis home town, he is a careful and
accurate business man with consid
erable experience in railroad work.
We congratulate the company on
securing his services and wish for
him a long and successful career in
his new office.
Wm. Goodlet, a colored man who
works in the boiler room of the Giff
ney Manufacturing company, was
painfully hurt ytsterday by a piece
of timber falling on him. It hit him
on the left side of the head and face
and for awhile, rendered him uncon- 1
scious. He was attended by Dr. Grif- 1
fith and when heard from jesterday '
afternoon lie was comfortable and |
apparently doing well.

On last Tuesday Mrs. R. O. Sams
received a telegram announcing the
death of her nephew, Mr. Louis Rob
erts, which occurred at Charleston.
Mr. Roberta was a promising 3oung
man of high Christian character and
a great favorite of Mrs. Sams. Had
he lived he would have graduated this
year at the Citadel. Mr. Roberts
had visited Gaffney and whs esteemed
by all who knew him. His untimely
death was a shock to both relatives
and friends in this city.
