“HELLO BILL.”
This UreatFarclal Comedy will be Present
ed at the Star Theatre Tonight.
The old saying that nothing suc
ceeds like success has never received
greater exemplification than in the
case of that most successful of mod
ern farciai comedies, “Hello Bill,”
which is to be the attraction at the
Star Theatre tonight. At the origi
nal production of Willis Maxwell
Goodhue’s merry play, the purest
French farce was at the zenith of its
career, and the critics declared with
one voice tnat an absolutely clean
comedy, dealing with absolutely
clean characters,without a suggestion
of double entendres or risque situa
tions was foredoomed to failure.
How little, they knew of the American
public has been proven by the over
whelming success of Mr. Goodhue’s
funny playlet, which ij now in its
fourth laughing season, aud which
has probably made more|people laugh
during the last three years than any
other American comedy, while the
French farces, with their filthy sug
gestion, have been buried deep under
the avalanche of popular disapproval.
Although “Hello Bill'’ is now in its
fourth year before the public, it has
never yet been seen west of St. Louis,
and with the exception of a few weeks
at the close of last season, is a
stranger also to the great Southern
country, hence its first trans-conti
nental tour this season from ocean to
ocean and from the Great Lakes to
the Gulf of Mexi !0, brings it into a
territory where it will to all intents
and purposes be a new attraction.
Bearing this point in mind Messrs.
Goodhue <fc Kellogg have made ex
treme efforts in the selection of their
company this year, and it is said that
the organization they hive brought
together is the best of the kind which
has been seen in these parts in many
a day - ;
‘•The Prisoner of Zemla.”
The attraction at the Star Theatre
on Monday, March 9th, will be the
dramatized edition of the cream of
Anthony Hope’s genius,“The Prison
er of Zenda.” This fascinating story
is to a greater or less degree familiar
to all, and its intense situations, its
episodes of thrilling adventures, so
originally conceived and so brilliantly
executed, have made this play the
one successful romance of the age.
Plays have come and plays have
gone, but the popularity of “Zenda”
like the water of the babbling brook
runs on forever. Its success this
season has far exceeded in the line of
attendance that of its previous
achievements, enormous audiences
greeting this attraction wherever
presented. The same scenic splendor
that signalized the New York produc
tion has been duplicated in its en
tirety by Mr. Ernest Shipman, who
is directing the present tour. Along
cast, headed by that exceptionally
clever romantic actor, Joseph 8el-
man, appearing as “Rudolf, King of
Ruritania,” andjtbe beautiful Flor
ence Gale, as the “Priccess Flavia,”
will be found on the programme.
Lovers of an evening’s entertainment
that is food for the imagination,
pleasing to the fancy, satisfying the
intellect and thrilling the senses,
should not miss seeing “The Prisoner
of Zenda.”
A Valubble Commendation.
Dear Mr. Maxim :—I was keenly
interested in your programmes, and
am very glad that you sent them. It
seems to me almost marvelous (judg
ing from trustworthy accounts of
the primitive condition or musical
taste in the South) that you can ven
ture to present such “stiff” pro
grammes. Either it proves noble
perseverance on your part, of unusual
willingness to be converted, on the
part of the public. Your influence
must be great for good in this way,
and you merit all possible success.
Cordially yours,
(signed) Percy Goetschins.
The programmes referred to are
those that have been given by the
college faculty this season. The
praise falls, not primarily upon the
faculty of the school of music, in
dividually or collectively, but upon
Limestone College which makes pos
sible this series of recitals.
The value of the commendation is
appreciated by those who know Dr.
Goetschins as a Royal Wirtemberg
professor and the author of “Tone
Relations,” “Counterpoint,” “Melo
dy Writing,” “Material of Musical
Composition” aud other treatises on
musical topics.

Garden Seed
Instead of saying
“The early bird catches the worm,”
let us make the proverb read,
“The early truckster gets the price.”
We have made a study of Garden
Seeds and we believe that we have
the finest varieties of early seeds that
are to be had anywhere. We handle
only reliable seeds, such that you can
depend upon to grow and bear heav
ily. It’s a good deal safer and surer to
buy of us than to send away for your
seeds.
