Johnson, of the Gaffney Live Stock Company, arrived home this morning from tbe west. A car load of choice mules will arrive to morrow morning as a result of Mr. Johnson’s trip. Arranging for Postofflce. The vacant room on tbe ground floor of the Star Theatre building is being handsomely fitted up in most modern style for Postmaster Folger. He will move tbe postoffice into bis new quarters on the firet of January. Tbe Gaffney’s postofflce, like her other new thinge, will be up-to-date. Disappointment. There is great disappointmeut at Limestone College relative to tbe Mariab Louisa Woodruff Infirmary. Tbe plans »ere completed, toe money to pay for tbe building was deposi ted by Capt. Woodruff and a contract, signed some months ago which re quired tbe building to be completed before this time. Yet the work has not been commenced. SHORT LOCAL ITEMS. Special Announcement. Phillips, Esq. • Mr. Bolten Spencer and Miss Lona Wyatt were married on the 28th of November by Wm. Phillips, Esq. The cotton is nearly all picked out, tbe corn all gathered and tbe wheat, oate and rye all sowed and in most oases a good stand is up. After the first of January tbe R S. Duncan, chief of police of Blacksburg, brought two coons over Tuesday and entered them for a thirty days course in the county’s good road class. If the State will sell liquor, Gaff ney is fortunate in having in Mr. R. O. Ballenger, the best dispenser in tbe State. There are never any short comings, overgoings or other irregu larities in Oscar’s part of the busi ness. One of our frieods who killed some fine hogs last week don’t want bis name mentioned in connection with them. He said he had a neighbor to have a good portion of bis meat stolen last year because so many people knew he bad it. The Barlow and Wilson Minstrels will play at Blacksburg Saturday night. This is one of the best mins trel shows on tbe road, and it speaks well for manager 0. A. Osborne to be able to secure the services of such an attraction iu bis town. We regret to learn that Mr. J. J. Whisonant. a prominent lumberman of Blacksburg, and bis family, will move to Gordon, in Southeru Ala bama, uext week, where he will con tinue iu tbe lumber busiuess. Blacksburg’s loss will be Alabama’s gain. Z. A. Robertson has take charge of the hotel recently kept by Cal Parish. Mr. Robertson has had no experi ence in tbe hotel business, but with bis indomitable pluck and assitance of bis graceful and genial better half tbe patrons will find it a pleasant home Our old friend Wm. W’isher, of King's Creek, informs us that his neighbor, Mr. Robt. Moss, caught 100 cat fish and four large suckers in bis basket on Wednesday of last week. Godfrey, of Maud, who had his left hand so severely injured iu 11 cotton giu the first of the fall, was in to see The Ledger Wednesday. So much so that we can make no safe calculations on arrival of mails.
