The county board of registrars met in their office yesterday. The county board of control had their monthly meeting yesterday. County Supervisor VVhelchel is having the court house repainted. The final session of the fifty-sev enth congress meets in Washington today. W. C. Fruit, of Antioch, killed a log Friday morning that weighed 373 pounds net. Mr. Scott Hill presented us with some fine specimens of his Ruta baga turnips yesterday. Mr. R. M. Gaffney went out of the Southern depot yesterday and Mr. ?almer took charge. W. M. McCraw has accepted a po sition with Carroll, Carpenter & By ers in their Limestone street store. Capt. J. C. Camp has resigned his josition as manager of the county chaingang and has been succeeded by Mr. Ell Clary. John Ross,who has a truck farm on Cherokee creek, sent us a turnip Sat- rday that weighed ten pounds with the top cut off. After two or three days of cold weather the rain began Sunday morn- ng just before day and continued all day. It was the rainiest day we have iad this fall. Rev. T. F. Boozer, formerly of Xew- lerry county, but late of Rutherford- ton, N. C., has moved to the city and is teaching a school near Aebury. We welcome him and his family to the city. Maj. Jno.F. Jones has returned rom a trip to Chattanooga, Tenn., where he went on business connected with his factory in Blacksburg, which le is building for the pumose of manufacturing farm implements. Jake Montgomery, the faithful body-servant of Capt. J. H. Mont gomery while in the Confederate array, is in grief again. His wife, Nancy, with whom he had lived for 38 years, died Saturday, the 22nd inst. He says his only comfort, now that his two best friends are gone, is “that Nancy and Marse John were both Christians.” GONE WEST. -o- Mr. H. M.
