A POPULAR ACTRESS.
Honors Confered Upon Miss Adedalde
Thurston by Daughter of Confederacy.
Miss Adelaide Thurston “At Cozy
Corners” commenced her second
southern tour in Norfolk, Va., last
week. The play, the company and
the scenic production was pronounced
better than “Sweet Clover,” Miss
Thurstop’s play of last year.
An unusual honor was conferred on
the dainty actress, Miss .Adelaide
Thurston, while she was playing “At
Cozy Corners” in Norfolk, Va., on
the 8th inst. The Virginian Daugh
ters of the Confederacy, in annual
session there, elected , iss Thurston
an honorary member of their body.
This is the only time an actress has
been so honored. Miss Thurston was

“At Cozy Corners” in which Miss
Adelaide Thurston appeared last
evening is far superior in every way
to “Sweet Clover.” The supporting
company is strong and well balanced.
“At Cozy Corners” has that which
“Sweet Clover” lacked most—a clever
villian. This character adds untold
dramatic intensity to the story of the
absorbing play.
WOMEN AND SOCIETY.

One can hardly realize that the
summer season is over and we must
lay aside the gowns that looked so
pretty for something heavier and
more wintry looking. But we humans
are always readjr for a change and
something new, and as the cool days
draw near our summer gowns have a
cold, cheerless look and we are glad
to lay them aside for new ones. There
is nothing that looks so pretty in the
early fall as a gown of dark blue or
black with perhaps a touch of red at
the neck or in the hat. Both of these
colors will be worn and brown prom
ises to be one of the popular colors
fortbecoming season, and we will
see small checks in both silk and
wool materials. Skirts will change
but little, but there are always new
patterns when making up new mater
ials at the beginning of the season.
The skirt with three deep flounces
will become popular. This style looks
well on a tall, slim figure.

last season in Atlanta, when she gave

had burned.
Norfolk Landmark: The return
engagement of the clever young
actress, Miss Adelaide Thurston, was
a decided success. Miss Thurston’s
last appearance here was in “Sweet
Clover.” This time her play was
“At Cozy Corners,” a play of more
comedy than the other, intensely
interesting, strong in climax and
presented by a thoroughly capable
company. Ttiere was a full dozen of
curtain calls.
Norfolk Dispatch : Charming Ade
laide Thurston and her company pre
sented the pretty comedy drama “At
Cozy Corners” before a good sized
audience. Miss Thurston was de
lightfully clever in her new role.
The supporting company is a very
competent offe.
Norfolk Pilot: Petite Adelaide
Thurston still further enshrined her
self in the hearts of Norfolk play
goers last night in the comedy drama
“At Cozy Corners.” This beautiful
new play furnishes Miss Thurston
with a fine vehicle for the display of
her talents and she received a most
cordial*reception, being obliged to
respond to a number of ourtaiu calls
after each act.
Press, Newport News, Va: There
is Csomething exceedingly winsome
and magnetic about this pretty, soft-
voiced, clever little actress that in
spires a personal interest, a sort of
feeling of proprietorship that is not
often felt for au actor. Miss Adelaide
Thurston probably appears -to better
advantage Id “At Cozy Coruers”
than In any other play in which she
has been seen, not excepting “The
Little Minister” or “Sweet Clover.”
The role of Avis Merrill oould not be
in better bands. Her talent and the
evidence of her oonscientlons work
(talent and work make gennis they
say) can not be forgotten while she is
on the atage. The support is excell
ent. The play la a gem.
