A Splendid Production of Shakespeare's
“Faming of the Shrew.”
The performance given last night
by Mr. Charles B. Hanford and his
excellent company was doubtless one
of the very best theatrical produc
tions that is likely to visit Gaffney
this season.
Mr. Hanford is a polished actor.
Whether playing “Haversack” in the
“Old Guard,” or “Petruchio” in the
“Taming of the Shrew.” he was at
perfect ease and displayed marked
ability.
Miss Drofnah is what might be
termed “a top notcher ” Her rendi
tion of Katherine was splendid, while
her “Melaine,” in “The Old Guard,”
was a clever piece of work.
The selection of the supporting
company shows that Mr. Hanford is
a good judge of actors and actresses,
as well as a good actor. The costum
ing and staging were delightful and
the audience departed with pleasant
memories of Mr. Hanford and his
company.
MIhh Thurston Universally Praised.
As an indication of the universal
praise accorded Miss Adelaide Thurs
ton, who is making a tremendous
“hit” in at‘‘Cozy Corners,” see what
is said of her in some of the northern
cities where she appeared last week.
The Bulletin (Norwich, Conn.)
says: While “At Cozy Corners” has
greot merit as a play, there is no
doubt that great credit belongs to
Miss Thurstou for its success. This
charming young actress lends a pe
culiarly fascinating atmosphere to
any part she elects to play and her
audiences quickly and uncondition
ally capitulate to her irresistible
charm. The company is far above
the average good one.
The Day (New London, Coon.) says :
“At Cozy Corners” tells a pretty love
story which draws strongly on the
sympathy of the audience. Miss
Thurston is always assurred a wel
come in this city. * * * All the
characters io the play are capably
acted.
Limestone Progr*-*H.
Young ladies are still arriving and
entering Limestone College and every
available dormitory will soon be filled.
The Winnie Davis Hail of History
will soon be finished, then more space
in the old building can be devoted to
sleeping apartments and enable the
college to accomodate its rapidly in
creasing patronage.
The college is in fine working
shape; it is the pride of our people
and the high grade work it is doing is
attracting attention all over the
Southern States, which is being
evinced by the presence of students
from them.
Limestone College has the highest
standard of education of any college
in the State and wWl in the near fu
ture be recognized as a fine finishing
school for young ladies who have
graduated at other colleges.

No skirt suits the stout figure more
perfectly than the one cut in seven
gort-s. The seams mean vertical
lines that always tend to give a slen
der effect, and the many gores allow
of shaping snugly and smoothly over
the hips without the use of darts.
Very little trimming and simple out
lines characterize the better class of
fall gowns. The tailor still clings to
the basque. A great dea 1 of blue is
worn, but it is much brighter than
navy and yet not too assertive. A
yellowish ivory is newer than cream,
and a wee touch of gold braid or a
little tinsel worked into tbe lace or
facings makes a charming relief and
considerably smartens the toilet. The
sensible woman will wear what suits
her; she may be quite sure that she
will look her best in it and the frock
will be successful.
MUx JarkHon Sal 1m for Europe.
Leonora Jackson, tbe well-known
violinist, sailed last week for Europe
on the North German Lloyd liner
“Grosser Kurfurst.” The young
artist, since her return from abroad
in 1902, has made two extensive
tours of the United States, including
the South and the Pacific Coast, and
has won hosts of friends in all parts
of the Union. Uninfluenced by the
prominence she has already attained,
both in the Old World and the New,
she intends devoting now a year or
more to special study with her for
mer professors in Berlin, and wiil
meanwhile discontinue concerting.
Miss Jackson will remain abroad two
or more years. Miss Jackson is
pleasantly remembered many of
the people of Gaffney who had the
pleasure of hearing her at Limestone
College last year.

When our store is piled and packed from floor to ceiling with fresh Dry Goods, Clothing and Shoes that are compelled to go at the pn<
we have made on them. We know that nothing else will move them, so we considered a quick sale and small profit. It will be better for us
than to do as manypther stores, put on a large profit which is compelled to make slow sales, and at last the results wil be, that we would have
a large stock of goods on hand which would be hard to move at any price we could make on them. We fully realize that our customers
want fashion and style as well as goods and prices. So our idea for the next 90 days is quick sales and small P r O{its» the only way to
move the tremendous stock of goods which we have on hand. We haven’t room to give prices, but come to THE DIXIE for your Dry Goods
Clothing and Shoes, for you may rest assured that the prices will be right.
