Sims, Esq., a prominent attorney of Spartanburg, was in the city yesterday on professional busi ness. Prof. Cooley, of the Beaver Dam school, came to the city Saturday. Capt. and Mrs. J. J. Miss Lilias Brown, a prominent and charming young lady of Aiken, and an alumna of Limestone College, arrived in the city yesterday after noon from Flat Rock, N. 0., where she has been summering, and is the guest of her friend, Miss Florence Griffith, at Limestone Springs. Hicks, a prominent citizen of Ezells, paid The Ledger a visit Sat urday. Miss Minnie Wessinger and her lit tle sister, Lillie May, have gone to Clifton to make a short visit to rela tives and friends. Wm. G. Fowler, of Sunnyside, one of Cherokee’s extensive farmers who uses the intensive system success fully, made a business trip to the city Saturday. Mrs. J. A. Cooper, who has been on the sick list a week or two, we are glad to state was out at church Sun> day. R. F. Fowler, (“Dick”) of Pea Ridge, received hearty handshakes from nis many friends in the city Saturday. “Dick” belonged to Gaff ney once. County Commissioner W. T. Brown, of Spartanburg county, was in the city Sunday. Scott Jolly, an influential citizen of Ezells, was a Ledger visitor Satur day. C. L. N. Legge, Esq., of Mercer, paid The Ledger an appreciated visit Saturday. John S. Mintz, a prominent planter from across the Broad, was a business visitor in the city yesterday. Mrs. Ann R. Waters honored The Ledger with a call Saturday. J. A. Wbisonant, of Antioch, was in his offlee yesterday with his books open for voters to register. John C. Haines, of Davisville, N. C., came in to see us Saturday. Drury D. Scruggs, a successful farmer of the Battle Ground, was an appreciated visitor of The Ledger yesterday. B. R. Jones, a farmer of Hickory county, was a welcome Ledger Saturday. W. T. Vassey, of State Line, made a visit to the city Friday. W. D. Robert Kirby, a prosperous farmer of Sunny Side, was an appreciated Ledger visitor Saturday. Henderson Carroll,a wealthy farmer from the Broad, paid The Ledger a visit yesterday while in the city on business. Dr. Ramseur, a prominent physi cian of Blacksburg, was in the city yesterday. Maj. Jno. F. Jones, of Blacksburg, and his friends. Mr.Pbifer of Spartan burg and Mr. Rushton of New York, paid The Ledger an appreciated visit yesterday. M. C. The Smith Hardware Company has contracted with J. H. Curry to build a two story brick block on the corner of Fredrick and Granard streets con taining three large brick store rooms. The second story will be handsomely and conveniently arranged to meet the demands of a progressive and growing city. Work on this block will be begun at once. Plans are out for other buildings in Gaffney. Notice to Confederate Soldiers. The Confederate soldiers of each townhsip in Cherokee county will meet on the first Saturday in Sep tember. at their usual place of meet ing, to elect a representative on the county pension board. M.
