And the son of God prevailed on the Almighty to let Him come down and take on Himself a body of flesh and be crucified on the cross, shedding His blood to redeem fallen man. So the Almighty gave all into His hand*. Now the sinner must come to Christ and give himself up to obey Him with all his heart, soul and mind. It is then that Christ receives him, blow ing the Holy Ghost, the Comforter,in to his heart, even the spirit of truth whom the world cannot receive. When Christ puts the Holy Ghost in to the heart, and that is what He meant by being born again and eat ing His flesh and drinking His blood, He was begotten of the Holy Ghost and could change Himself to a spirit at will or change His features so His best acquaintances would not know Him. He says, “I am the door, by Me if any man enter in he shall be saved and shall go in and out and find pasture.” Entering into the door of Christ is what is called regen eration. The renewal of the heart, which is entering in at the straight gate into the door by Christ, and in Christ and Christ in you and Christ in His father, the God of the heavens and earth. Now, are our teachers, who claim to be preaching the gospel of Christ, working for Christ and His kingdom, or are they laboring for the honor of the world and filthy lucre? I have first laid out the only road to the kingdom of Christ , and there is no chance to climb up any other wav. We are warned to he aware of false teachers, blind guides, for if the blind lead the blind they both fall into the ditch. Also we have a great many in the same road the Phari sees were in when Christ came, who only have to carry out the form of religion in their worship, and their whole motive is to gather in a big number so as to swell their salary. When they open the doors of the church they ask a few questions of the candidates to which they only have to reply yes, when -they should take the directions of John the Bap tist, the forerunner of Christ, and who Christ said should prepare thy way before thy face. Now John the Baptist only baptised those that brought fruits—meet for repentance. If our teachers don’t know what a repentance is, they should teach the sinner to never rest until they come to Christ and get Him to give them His flesh to eat and His blood to drink, so as to be born again and be capable of teaching the only road that will lead them to the kingdom. But instead of teaching the true road to the kingdom they are trying to make the people and members of churches believe that they are bound to give the tenth of their in come to the support of the gospel, and they tell their congregations the Jews paid the tenth of their income. I have never heard one tell yet to what use the Jews put that tenth, but they always tried to make the people believe they paid it to their preachers to support the gospel. The Jews were a nation to themselves and run everything together, both the gospel and expenses of their govern ment, built their tabernacles and paid all their officers. If you will look at our taxes you will see we are taxed much higher than the Jews were to the support of our govern ment. I received a copy of the Biblical Record some time back counseling that the people ought to study the catechism before they joined the church so as to be capable of answer ing the questions asked them in join ing the church. Such teaching as that is the blind leading the blind and there is no chance for such to reach the kingdom, for Christ says except ye eat My flesh and drink My blood ye cannot enter the king dom. When a person eats His flesh and drinks His blood he has bis cat echism, in which is the Holy Ghost, the Comforter, which is in them and them in Christ, and then they can “love the Lord thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul and with all tby mind. The second is like unto it: Thou sbalt love tby neigh bor as thyself, and on these two com mandments bang the whole law and the prophets.” This is the law that our preachers should teach, which is the foundation of the gospel and what Christ taught the people while on earth with them. They should look up Hia answer to Nloodemus and the lawyer and Jews and explain to the world the straight road to the king dom, but instead they teach the peo ple that they are' obliged to support the gospel by paying them so much a year, which is hiring them by the year; so you see they are nothing but hirelings whose own the sheep are not. When he seeth the wolf com ing he fleeth and the wolf catcheth them and scattereth the sheep. There have always been hirelings, and from the way they are gaining in numbers they will in time, if they have not al ready, get the majority of the people to believe that if they join the church, pay the hireling his salary, they will get to the kingdom. They even pass resolutions in the churches and try every motive to stigmatize all that don’t give them what filthy lucre they want and even turn them out of the church unless they can drive them into their plans and de vices to make themselves and their children rich. But a blind person cannot see into their motives and schemes, and for the honor of the world will be led into them and use every effort they can for these hire lings, not knowing any better, as they are not taught the true plan of Christ in the redemption of the sin ner as laid down in the covenant of grace. But Christ says they are to deceive the very elect if it were pos sible, so we must know our standing with Christ, if we have any, and not be driven into the craven motives and devices of the hireling who can’t tell when a man loves the Lord thy God with his heart, soul an 1 mind. Beware of such teachers and do not be led into their net, but strive to enter in at the straight gate into the door of Christ. Read the 36th chap ter of Ezekiel, 22nd of Matthew and 3rd and 6th, 10th and 14th of St. John and see what the God of the heavens says concerning the straight road that leads into the kingdom of Christ. W. H. Carroll. Baptist Services. Rev. Arch C. Cree, pastor of the First Baptist church, is in the midst of a splendid meeting at Wedgefield, S. C., and has recently preached through a great revival at Antioch church. Owing to some misunder standing on the part of the deacons no announcements were made at the First Baptist church last Sunday, and the pastor desires us to announce that he will occupy his pulpit at both morning and night services on next Sunday. Haseliall at Facolet. On Saturday last, 16th inst., Ra venna took a clean game of ball from Pacolet’s second nine by a score of 8 to 6. Battery for Ravenna, Robbins and Mabry; for Facolet, Hawkins and and Hodge. The game at times was very interesting. Shuford, principal of No. 2 graded school and his able as sistant, Miss Bessie Crocker, were married Wednesday at 7 :30 p. m. at the home of the bride’s mother in the southern part of the city by Rev. J. B. Bozeman, and left on the 8. 30 north bound train to points of inter est in North Carolina.
