A Public Library,

council in the Interest of a public
library. Meuara Wardlaw, Creo and
others addressed the council on the
importance of the measure, and

this matter, I desire to say that Mr

three years ago when he gave her her
S pension money. He kept the money
one year and then g‘ ve it hack to
me. I told Mr. Jefferies at the time
! that he ought not to charge the old
pensioners anything, for they got lit
; tie enough anyway. He said he could
; not afford to do the work for nothing.
I told him then that I wou'd pay it
I myself, that she should not lose it
Now, Mr. Editor, I just simply
! state the truth about this matter be-
! cause Mr Jefferies had my mother’s
name on his list stating that lie had
| not charged her.

Work is now being pushed on the
Gaffney Manufacturing Company’s
finishing plant, the Winnie Davis
Hall of History at Limestone College,
the new City Hall and the Curry and
Spake block on Limestone street as
fast as material can be obtained. In
a short time all the materials will be
on the ground when work wiil be
pushed as rapidly as possible till all
are finished.
In addition to the above impor
tant buildings many handsome
residences are being built, and plans
are in for one or more of the hand
somest business blocks ever built or
projected ip Gaffney.

On Sunday morning the congrega
tions of Buford Street Methodist
church and Limestone Street Metho
dist church united at the church of
the latter to hear the dedicatory ser
mon by Bishop W. W. Duncan, of
Spartanburg.
The bishop preached an able and
appropriate sermon and the whole
service was heartily entered into by
the large congregation. After the
sermon the bishop formally dedicated
this beautiful edifice, for which thj
devoted congregation had worked for
so long and so faithfully, to the ser
vice of God.
A Chaugc
Mr. A. B. Reinhart has given up
the management of the Cherokee
Inn at Blacksburg, and Mr John A.
Byars has taken charge. The Chero
kee Inn is a most delightful place,
and we expect soon to avail ourselves
of a cordial invitation to share its
hospitalities.
