discussing the subject.
The outlook for a record-breaking
crowd is very favorable, every mai
boars inquiries as to schedules, pro
gramme, etc. The governor has been
invited and will probably accept.
The Hon. Mr. M. L. Smith, of
Camden, who is one of South Caro
lina’s foremost orators, and a dis
tinguished lawyer and member of the
State legislatur, will deliver the
oration. His reputation is a guarantee
that you will bear a masterpiece of
oratory.
The up-to-date and progressive
bicycle people, Parker i Toileson,
have ordered a motorcycle, « hich will
be in the parade, and will be speeded
at the race track in a race against
time.
The famous K. of P. brass band, of
Forest City, N. C., under the direc
tion of one of Gaffney’s former Aider-
man, Mr. E. J. Barnett, has been
engaged. This band is one of the
best in the South. It’s engagement
assures a great treat to all music
lovers, and who in Gaffney is not?
The thought of the itispirljg strains,
even this far off, sets one’s feet in
motion.
The amusement committee has
about completed arrangements to
have an automobile here on the
Fourth. They are striving royally to
have everything that is new, novel

old. This suggestion has been very
well received, and will be quite an
innovation, if carried oul.
The fantastic feature of the parade
promises to be something out of the
ordinary, one of the participants is
having a mephistopheiian costume
made and will have a half dozen
“rings of darkness” in bis train.
Interest in the floral parade is
growing. The committee has had a
number of inquiries about the details,
and when the prizes for this event is
announced doubtless the entries
will be greatly swelled.
The invitation committe has been
sending out invitations galore. They
say they expect no declinations, and
it is to be hoped that few such are re
ceived.
Tbecounty candidates are sharpen
ing op their saws, and all the local
ones say that they will be on the
political wood-pile bright and early.
Another feature that is often in
quired about is the barbecue. We
are iu a position to assure the “bar
becue friends,” and they are legion,
that they are to have their hearts
desire.
Mr. A. B. Gaines, the popular
chief marshal and master of ceremo
nies, will, in a few days, map out the
line of march, when it will be pub
lished. And it is to be hoped that
the citizens along the line will de
corate their stores and bouses. A few
buntings help the cause. They brighten
things up, make one feel glad and
■tir up the latent enthusiasm in
every breast.
Remember the meeting this evening
at 7 p. m., at the mayor’s office.
Come out every ooe that can. Maybe
you can suggest something that no
| one has yet thought of, and that is
what we should all strive to do, "dig
up” something new and amusing.
Always keep in mind the fact that
you are going to have "your uncles,
your cousins and your aunts” here on
the glorious Fourth and are bound to
•ee that they enjoy themselves folly.
Come ahead, give the committee the
benefit of your ideas. Don’t forget
the hour.

the sixth ward for an alderman to fill
the vacancy occasioned by the resig
nation of G. W. Cotton, in which

Gaffney is a good, intelligent, conser

Among the distinguished com
mencement visitors who arrived Sat
urday were Mrs. Clark Waring, a dis
tinguished alumna of Limestone
College of the class of 1859, and Mrs.
Thomas Taylor, both of Columbia.
Mrs. Waring is president of the Lime
stone College Alumnae Association
and Mrs. Taylor is the regent of the
Daughters of the Revolution of South 1
Carolina, and delivered the annual
address before the alumnae associa
tion yesterday evening in the audi
torium. Th 8 is not the first time I
that Mrs. Taylor has been at Lime
stone Springs. In her early childhood
she lived at the springs with her
father, the late Hon Franklin H. El
more, when he was largely engaged
in manufacturing iron at Cherokee
Ford, and who was afterwards a
United States senator from this State.

Sunday at Limestone College.
There were no services in several
of the churches in the city Sunday
on account of the services held at
Limestone College, where the com
mencement of the college was begun
by the preaching of the baccalaureate
sermon by the distinguished divine.
