A SOUL STIRINC SERMON.
Rev. D. P. Montgomery Arreats the Atten.
tlou of Men.
The announcement that Rev. D. P.
Montgomery would preach a sermon
to men only at the court bouse last
Sunday afternoon attracted a large
crowd. The speaker was introduced
by Rev. Bozeman, of the Cherokee
Avenue Baptist church, and he at
once entered into his work with a
zeal that arrested and for one solid
hour the attention of the large con
gregation of men. The sermon was
what Mr. Montgomery was pleased to
term a heart to heart talk to bis fel
low man, and was a direct plea to
men to live better lives. At times he
was so intensely in earnest that he
was dramatic. He did not enter into
the sensational but on the other hand
handled delicate subjects in a dele-
cate manner, but at the same time
bis <?e u iciation of the deprarty of
mankind was enteosely fierce. The
sermon was pronounced by man to
be the best along its line that has
ever been delivered in Gaffney.

(juite a number of friends of the

Mrs. Lipscomb with congratulations
and good wishes.
A large number of beautiful pres
ents also testified to the popularity

Stockholder* Meet.
The stockholders of the Cherokee
Fails Mfg. Co. met on the loth inst

of five per cent. J. C. Plonk was re
elected president and R. P. Roberts,
treasurer. The old directors were all
re-elected.
Cherokee mills is one of the most
prosperous manufacturing plants in
the State, and under the continued
splendid management of Messrs.
Plonk and Roberts is destined to be

The Wilkin*Special.
Great syndicate buying goods
tskiog the entire output of mills.
makes a novation in the price of
goods.
The “Wilkins special sale” going
on at O. E. Wilkins’ store will illus
trate this fact. Some goods are sold
for less than you can buy the ma
terials. and some gooJs are even on
sale so cheap that it looks as if it
was for less than the labor would
c^sL Those who have not attended
one of these sales should make it a
point to do so if only to see the
beautiful goods and the low prices on
them.

Ten Million Dollars went uo in smoke and
ashes In Paterson, N. J., In January last, yet
the city refused aid from others to help bear
Its loss. WhyV Because the business men
and people were secured by Policies In Fire
Insurance Companies that covered their
losses. And now the city, “Phoenix like.”
with new life and vigor, springs forth from
her ashes crowned with youth and beauty.
Have you a policy on your house against
loss by fire. etcV If not take out one ere it be
too late. ^
The Farmers Mutual Fire Insurance Co., of
Cherokee County, stands ready to give you
the necessary protection against loss, it ap
peals to you as a Home Enterprise ''for Vour
Patronage." It appeals to you for your pat
ronage also, because It Is as safe as any and
the cheapest In the world ;>and for verification
consult the (100 policy holders scattered over

I shall give special attention to the treat
ment of that class of chronic eye diseases
the natural tendency of which is to produce
BLINDNESS.
By a METHOD ENTIRELY NEW I am

A Prosperous Dairyman.
C. L Harmon is one of Cherokee’s
most successful truckers and dairv-
men. He has ten acres in vegitables
and is milking seven cows. He
makes daily visits to the city and
sells all the milk and butter that he
can produce and there are few days
in the year that he does not bring in
fine vegitables which be sells readily.
Trucking is now in Cherokee but
the success that those who are en
gaged in it, are having, will induce
others to go into the business and
willjsoon create another large industry
iu the county.
Fold the arms of thy Faith. I say
put not of thy action ; bethink thee
of something that thou oughtest to
lo, and go and do it, if it be qut the
sweeping of a room, or the preparing
a meal, or a visit to a friend; heed
not thy feelings; do thy work.
Young men take a noble stand in
life’s great work. The more nobly
the young man conceives of this
world, the more noble will be his life.
