Some kxtracts Governing Delivery of Mails
Along, Kree Delivery Routes.
It will be seen from tbe following
extracts from the postal laws that
persons living on tbe Star route lines
can secure many conveniencies that
they do not now enjoy if they would
just put themselves tea little trouble
necessary to secure them.
“In addition to proposals for carry
ing the maila on the routes and sub
ject to the conditiora hereinbefore
set forth, proposals will also be re
ceived for carrying the mails on the
same routes in the State of South
Carolina, subject to the same condi
tions, and also subject to further re
quirements, as follows:
Any person living on or near any
star route herein described who de
sires his mail deposited in a box on
the line of the route by the carrier
on said route may provide and erect
a suitable box on tbe roadside, loca
ted in such manner as to be reached
as conveniently as practicable by the
carrier, and such person shall tile
with the postmaster at tbe post-of
fice to which his mail is addressed
(which shall be one of tbe two post-
offices on the route on either side
of and next to the box) a request in
writting for the delivery of his mail
to the carrier on the route for deposit
in said box, at the risk of the ad
dressee.
It shall be the duty of the post
master at every such post-office, up
on a written order from any person
living on or near the star route, to
deliver to the proper mail carrier
for that route any mail matter, ex
cept registered mail, with instruc
tions as to the proper mail box at
which said mail matter shall be de
posited ; but no mail mattter so de
livered to a carrier for deposit shall
be carried past another post-office on
the route before being deposited in a
mail box.
The carrier ou the star route will
be required to receive from any
postnaaster on tbe route any mail
matter that may be intrusted to him,
outside of the usual mail bag, and
shall carry such mail (matter to and
deposit it in the proper boxes placed
on tbe line of the route for this pur
pose ; such service by the carrier to
be without charge to tbe addreeeeee.
The mail carriers must be able to
read and write tbe Englleh language
and be of eufficent intelligence to
properly beadle and depoeit the mail
for boxes along the routes."
“Uncle Trone” Dead.
"Uncle Trone” Anderson, a good
old colored man, died yesterday at
Limestone. “Uncle Trone” was a
slave of Dr. Wm. Curtis and was
brought here by him from Southern
Georgia, in 1845 or ’6 and has lived
here ever since. He was polite and
respectful and was liked by all. He
was more than eighty years old.
Only Eight WeekB Off.
The Fourth of July Is only eight
weeks from today. Gaffney com
menced to celebrate the dayj about
six years ago, but last year the ef
forts of “the committee” to pull off
the celebration were fruitless. “The
committee” is going to attempt it
again this year and if the people en
courage the project we will have a
“glorious fourth.” “The commit
tee can’t do the whole thing by them
selves, so “the people” are requested
to assist, and then Gaffney will en
tertain the world and bis wife for one
brief day.

and evening, special music at both
hours.
A series of evangelistic meeting
will commence on Sunday at tbe
Cherokee Avenue Baptist church.
Rev. D. P. Montgomery, of Camp-
bellsville, Ky., will assist pastor
Bozeman. Rev. Cree says Mr. Mont
gomery is one of the very best evange
listic preachers he has ever beard.
Hampton Memorial Service*.
The Winnie Davis and Moses Wood
Chapters of the Daughters of the
Confederacy are making elaborate
preparations for the meeting in the
court house to-night. They appeal
to all veterans to be present,
and request them all to assemble and
take seats together near the speak
ers.
