Peaceable Manner—Hard Work by the
Candidates and Their Friends.
The city election for mayor and
al iermen was held Tuesday after a
heated campaign in which every can
didate put In good time and his best
efforts. And all the work was of a
high and manly character, each one
striking square from the shoulder and
receiving similar work from his ad
versary with the utmost good humor.
And while many of each candidate’s
friends went into the contest with
gloves off and did telling work, they
too confined themselves to the plane
of fairness, justice and hot or. ai d
like the candidates, preserved tin-
best of good feeling and humor
throughout the contest. In every
contest the fighting was hard, but no
exception could bo taken to any of it
for the w irk was clean It was a
clean ejection. And while the de
feated feel their defeat keenly ai d
