Saturday and business was good.
While circumstances would indicate
the contrary, merchants report the
cash trade good.
Genial Charles Petty came up from
Orangeburg Saturday to spend his
vacation with relatives and friends in
and near the city, to whom his an

much pleasure.
During the thunder storm Thurs
day night lightning struck Mr. Law
rence Spake’s barn in the southern
part of the city and damaged it con
siderably, fortunately without injur
ing any of bis horses or cattle.
The fire alarm was sounded about
7 o’clock Sunday night, but it was
soon learned that it was only a chim
ney burning out. The colored real

May FeittltHl Notes.
The business arrangements of the
coming festival of music under the
auspices of Limestone College will be
managed by a committee composed
of our most prominent and repre
sentative business men, among whom
are, Mr. J. A. Carroll, Mr. W. C. Car
penter, Mr. F, G. Stacy, Mr. D. C.
Ross. Mr. Wofford Humphries. Mr.
W. B. DuPre and Mr. Edward H. De-
Camp. At the assistance of the
director and members of the Choral
Society and the members of the com
mittee in charge above mentioned,
Col J. G. Wardlaw has consented to
become a member of the committee
and to aid in making the festival a
financial and artistic success, if his
personal business affairs will permit.
Nearly all of the correspondence

Tne sopiano most favorably con
sidered was leading soprano for two
years in opera at Amsterdam. This
year she has appeared in this coun
try as soloist with the New York
Philharmonic Orchestra, the Boston
Symphony Orchestra (the finest or
chestra in the world), the Thomas
Orchestra of Chicago |and the largest
choral societies, before the most
critical audiances. Wherever she has
sung she has created a furor. If we
can secure this artist we shall be
decidedly fortunate.

S. L. Cutting, the busy and effi
cient superintendent of the Gaffney
Mills, found time to spend a few min
utes with The Ledger a few days ago.
Mr. Cutting is always jovial and con
genial, but when it comes to business,
it’s just a treat to bear him talk it.
We learn that a negro named Mc-
Kinny killed another negro by the
name of McIntyre near the state line
in Rutherford county, N. C., on Fri
day night while returning from a
chopping. It is said that McIntyre’s
head was completely severed from bis
body with an axe.
Miss Cleo Cunningham met with a

very well at the last account.
Starks Talley, a colored boy about

of bis legs was cut off just below the

But not the stand or prices. The Dixie, who sells it
for less, is still in the ring. We have changed our
name to “THE DIXIE WHO SELLS IT FOR
LESS" Instead of the “Mill End Who Sells It For
Less.” The reason why vne do this is becautfejthe
“Mill End” is copyrighted and we cannot use the
name. But when jkhi hear the band play “Dixie”
it makes you feel good, but when you come*to THE
DIXIE WHO SELLS IT FOR LESS, the prices will
make you feel better than the band. Just think of
buying a $10 suit for $5 at THE DIXIE, and thus
cutting all other stores’ prices right smack in the
middle. We also carry a full line of Dry Goods.
Remember the place and look for the sign across
the door:
The Dixie Who Sells It For Less.
