In order to make room for the large spring stock
wQ are contemplating purchasing in a very short
time, we have decided to inaugurate a clean up
and clean-out sale to run off the remnant of our
winter stock.
While we have done lots of business this winter
we still have a few good things left which will be
slaughtered at this great carnival.

for people in this latitude have few
prepararions for such arctic condi
tions as Saturday morniog pr-. sented.
It was not long however before busi-
nt?s houses were open and the snow
was being shoveled from the side
walks. This was a slow process but
it made things tolerable till the city
could start its snow piow, by which
means the sidewalks in all parts of
the city were made passable.
Only a few vehicles were to be seen
out, and they, while on most urgent
business, made slow progress. Soon,
however, improvised sleighs were
plentiful on tbe streets, which made
progress easier and more rapid and
furnished line sport for the young
people who were the only ones who
left their houses without business.
The people in the country stayed at
home too We don’t remember a
day when so few people were to be
seen on the streets of G.iflney us were
on it .Saturday, and business seemed
to be at a standstill.
Tbe snow melted very little Satur
day, and Sunday a light mist of snow
fell at intervals throughout toe day.
Monday morning it was perceptibly
warmer and the snow began to melt,
but at such a slow rate aa to give
promise of its remainirg with us for
many days yet.
We haven’t met a man who remem
bers to have seen 17 inches of snow !
it one time in this vicinity before. |
We are sure that there has not been
such a heavy fall of snow as this in
the last half century.
