Sunday was a day of rharksgiving
at the First Baptist church, due to
the payment of a noit of $'2 141.00 on
the debt of the church.
It has only been a year since Rev.
A. 0. Ctee, the present pastor of the
church, first visited Gatfney, and
only ten months since he entered !
upon the pastorate of the church, j
In these ten months over fifty mem
bers have been added to the church,

monthly and other happy events have
occurred during the time.
The service was one of general
prayer and praise. The pastor spoke
on the lessons learned from this ef
fort of the church ; prayer has been
made, conoecration practiced, and all
have been brought close together
Dr. S. B. Crawley spoke on “The
Mission of the Church,” and rejoiced
over the fact that the church is
more united and in better condition
than in years before. Mr. H. K
Osborne also spoke on “The Future
of the Church,” in view of their
achievements, their obligations and
their opportunities.
Mr. W. J. Wilkins and Mr. J. T.
Brown also added a few words of re
joicing and encouragement to the
church members.
Rev. J. B. Bozeman filled the pul
pit of the First Bap ist church on
Sunday night, and preached a strong
sermon on * Faithfulness.” Rev. A.
C. Cree preached in the afternoon at
Fairview Union chapel and lectured
on the “Study of the Bible” at night
at the Cherokee Avenue Baptist
church.

Miss Emma Lou Lockhart, of Mitch
ell, Oa., were united in marriage at
the bride’s Georgia home. The cere-
money was unostentatious, but pretty
in its simplicity, and was witnessed
by quite a large gathering of the
relatives and close friends of the
bridal couple.
Mr. Clary is one of Gaffney’s stead
iest and most promising young busi
ness men. He is a native of Chero
kee county, and came to this city
over a year ago to enter the large
mercantile establishment, of Car-
roll A Carpenter, which position
lie Las since creditably filled.
He has the esteem and confidence of
his employers and associates alike,
and his sterling qualities and high
moral character make him generally
popular.
His bride is the daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Henry F. Lockhart, of
Mitchell, Ga., and is a charming
representative of Georgia’s fair na
tives. iShe was one of Mitchell’s
most popuiar young ladies and u
general tavorile in Lie circle it. which
she moved.
Mr. and Mra. Clary arrived in Gaff
ney last Friday, and will make this
city their home. We welcome Mrs.
Clary to our midst, and extend to her
