J. C. Lipscomb & Bro. SHORT LOCAL TEMS. The many friends of Mr. and Mrs. John Lynch and family in the city, itre glad to know that they are again citizens of (Jaffney where they have received a warm welcome. We learn that the report current in the county that Mr. J. H. Littlejohn had been robbed uy masked men is incorrect. He was robbed of a small sum of money which was stealthily taken from his house by a sneak thief or thieves. We had the pleasure Saturday of a visit from Capt. C. G Love, of Shelby, N. C. Mr. Love is an old and very entertaining gentleman and is a vet eran of two wars. He was a mem ber of Co. I of the 12th U. S. infan try in the Mexican war, and was cap tain of a company in a North Caro lina regiment in the Confederate army, and he served faithfully through both wars. Senator sarratt’tt Good Wishes. In a private letter to the editor, Hon. R C. Sarratt says: “The senate has done very little work yet. The recent decisions of the supreme court have made it necessary for more important legisla tion than any other session of my legislative experience. Our best law yers are puzzled over the situation. Hoping you many cash subscribers, because I think your terms ver. rea sonable for the amount of work done, I am, yours truly ” Attempted Suicide. A young lady named Johnson at tempted to commit suicide Saturday while at work in the weave room of the Gaffney Manufacturing Company by cutting her throat, but was pre vented by those near by. She how ever. cut her neck in several places quite severely. The wounds were dressed by Dr. B. It Brown and she was carried to her home where she is doing fairly well, but is thought to be demented. In the list of pupils whose names were on the honor roll of graded school No. 1. the name of Guy Hood in second grade should have been Guy Hoard. Guy is the son of Mr W. W. WASH GDIS 8 Retailers do not have the chance to urge forethoughful women to buy wash goods in January for June. Every Impulse of practical economy suggests the course. The holiday tumult has quieted, the winter wardrobe is complete, home- sewers know the comfort of plying the needle when the weather is cool, and mo- dists, during the dull season’s lull are more than willing to scale their charges comparatively low in order to keep busy. But if no other reason existed the beauty of the fabrics, their crisp freshness and delightful newness would incline you to make selections now. January Sale of WHITE GOODS, We bought a large quantity of beautiful laces and embroideries from an im porter who was anxious to get rid of them before taking inventory. We paid a remarkably low price for them, so low that we are able to sell them to you at prices that will surprise you. Our stock has been added to in many departments since Januarv 1 st. Come to see us, we will make it to your interest to buy. Glad to show you through. G. G 7^ 805 Limestone St. Phone 1 1 6. Next door to Postoffice.
