Saturday night a regular meeting
of the lodge was held in ‘Manonic
Hall at which the following officers
were elected for the ensuing year:

At the meeting last evening, held
before the banquet, these officers
were regularly iitHtalled in their re
spective positions in the lodge. The
matter of organizing an Eastern Star
lodge for the ladies was discussed at
some length, but was postponed un
til some luture meeting when it will
receive more definite consideration
and attention.
After the business of the meeting
washover another subject was “dis
cussed” which was nrobably of much
more interest and importance to some
of the ass. mbh.ge than the dull rou
tine of business—aid that subj-ct
was the banquet. From the hall one
and all repaired to Parish’s Hotel
where a feast fit for a king and his
court was spread for their sole bene
fit Mir ie Host Parish is on adopt in
such things and on this occa-ion be
*^id not disappoint the hungry ban
queters. During the progress of ihe
feast the following toasts were off. red

These eels sometimes will eiimb
mountains 2.000 f et high and select
the summit as the place for their win
ter’s rest. They select or make a de
pression in the soft, moss covered soil
and fit themselves Into it snugly, re
maining for months at a time abso
lutely motionless and Inert. Sometimes
the eels are covered with moss or vege
table debris and at other times they
are found exposed to view with their
broad, flat heads doubled back upon
their bodies. After their season of
rest upon the mountain tops the eels
wriggle their way down to the val
leys and, plunging into the rivers and
Lakes, begin to feed upon the craw
fish, for which crustacean they have a
fondness which is shared by the na
tives. These eels are excellent eating,
but nothing will induce the natives to
touch them, alive or dead.
