THE GOLDEN CHARIOTS.
A *50,000 Mechanical Wonder to be on the
Charleston Midway.
Since the early days of the child
ish old merry-go-round men the world
over have been striving for something
uew, and many wonderful contrivan
ces have been invented, but nothing
has ever been seen in this country be
fore to approach the magnificent
Golden Chariots which will be seen
on the Midway at Charleston. The
chariots are eight in number and are
operated by steam in an indulating
circle nearly 500 feet in circumference.
Each chariot is most beautifully em-
belished with wood carving, plate cut
glass mirrors and elaborate gilding,
which gives the appearance that they
truly present—that of royal magnif
icence. They are upholstered in cost
ly crimson silk plush with brass rail
ings and twisted rods. Each is as
palatial as was the royal barge of
I Cleopatra, and seldom if ever has it
been the privilege of the average man
and woman to ride amid such splen
dor. The mechanical portion of the
great amusement consists of three
separate and splendid engines and
plants. One furnishes the power to
the chariots, another runs a dinamo
which makes a dazzling blaze of elec-
tri". lights, while the third operates
the great $10 000 military organ,
which discourses melody with ail the
musical power of a full brass band
the latest and the most popular music
of the day adding to the pleasure of
those who ride. The Golden Chari
ots is another of director Bostock’s
magnificent concessions which will
be at the Houth Carolina Interstate
and West Indian Exposition to be
held at Charleston.

one. for which I wish to convey
through The Ledger to them my
