Her Possibilities Should be Presented to
the World
Cherokee county is rich in all
things that go to make a county
She has the iron that gave Spartan
burg the name of “the old iron dis
trict.” She has the finest limestone
and marble in the state. She has
more mouazite than any county in
the state. She has gold mines that
have paid miners when work< d by
primitive methods, as fine granite for
building purposes as is to be found
any where. She has as fertile lauds
and as well tilled fields as any coun
ty in the state H* r immense water
powers are unsurpassed by any. and
easily accessible. Her magnificent
schools are overflowing with pupi s
and are in line with the foremost and
most progressive. Her towns are
prospering and are being built up at
a rate unprecedented even in the fast
moving Piedmont. Her mills are the
finest and are pr spenng.
Besides all this all her people en
gaged in all bussiness are progres ive
and are succeeding as well as any
people any where and are fully
aware of our resour es But it seems
none of them are w iling to make the
nee s?ary move to have Cherokee
propelly represented at the Iliter-
8taie and West Indian Exposition
in a-lefton
C ir, r ikeans, you kn< w your

Mayor's Court.
Tuesday morning his honor had
two “Weary Willies” before him and
out of the goodness of his heart al
lowed them to continue their busi
ness, provided they conducted it out
side of Gaffney. Also one Henry
Guiton, a local negro whiskey mer
chant, who had been running his
business contrary to dispensary rules.
Henry got $100 or thirty days. He
at once suspended business and went
on the gang.
Wednesday morning Manuel El
more, of alike color, and accused of
conducting an alike business appeared
before his honor and plead “not.
guilty.” but evidence was soon ad
duced which convinced the mayor
that Manuel had an erroneous idea
of his case and he gave him $100 or
thirty. Manuel appealed to the full
board of aldermen. Manuel was also
convicted of contempt of court and
given $5 or ten but again not being
pleased with the mayor’s edict he ap
pealed as above.
There was no .new cases before the
mayor yesterday morning and the
Elmore appeal cases were continued
till this morning.
