BUFFALO BREVITIES. Tlie Marriage of a Popular Youue Couple of th'.t Section. (Correspondence of The Ledirer.i Buffalo, Oct. 12 —The monotony of this community was broken last Sunday by a wedding. Mr Jack Ross, of Cherokee Falls, succeeded in captivating the (flections of Miss Edna Wylie, a charming young lady and a daughter of our esteemed fellow citizen Mr William Wylie, and they were united in the holy bonds of matrimony last Sunday it the home of the bride’s father, in the presence of a large number of friends and rela tives. Rev Thomas Muliimtx. the veteran knot tier of Grover, spoke the words that made their hearts beat as one. After the ceremony was over Mr. Gilliad Cline, an old bachelor, re quested the crowd to remain quiet just a few moments to give him a chance to search for himself a part ner and have another wedding ‘ right on the spot” but all bis earnest endeavors were in vain, and he seemed very much chagrined over it. but it was an indication that there were quite a number of very sensible young ladies present. We congratulate them upon their success in making their escape from such a deplorable misfortune. Mr. Allen W. Holt, and aged and respected citizen is suffering with a cancer on his face. Hard times are looking lots of peo ple square in the face. It is a mons ter to behold. The cotton tots are getting along very well gathering their favorite crop. The weather has been favor able for their business. Lecer Turner went to Gaffney last Monday to attend court as a juryman, and when he came home Thursday he found a little stranger at his house. It is a girl. We hear nothing said about start ing the public school at Buffalo. Owing to some dissatisfaction among the patrons of the school the atten- dcnce was smaller last winter than usual and there will hardly be as much public money for this school as there has been heretofore. Last winter the trustees paid the teacher ijwO per month and then made him a present of over and above his salary. The school ran something like four months and the trea-iurnrs report show that it cast $305 25 A few years ago it would not have cast more than half that amount. But it'must be borne in mind that this is an age of reforms and improvements. It is also an age of whisky drink ing. We have floods of liquor wash ing away mountains of ignorance. So long as we have the profits of the dispensary tc help run our public sch ids, and church meiubers to patronize it. nobody ought to kick at a Mttle extravagance public school money. in the use of Bachelor. SHORT LOCAL ITEMS. Gaffney had a good delegation at Rock Springs camp meeting on Sun day. Every day lust week added new girls to the already large number at Limestone College. Bring your cotton to Gaffney, all our ginneries are in shape, and our buyers pay the highest price. Cotton from new territory is being ginned in Gaffney this season. The Gaffney mills paying 8:15 is doing the work. Johnson B. Burges has bought Mr. T Hammett’s farm seven miles be low the city. It is a good farm, and Johnson knows how tow^rk it. Bud Saunders, of Polk county, N. C., who was arrested here by the po lice some two weeks ago for the mur der of one Wilson in Polk county, and carried to Polk for trial, was con victed of man-slaughter and given five years in the penitentiary. The ladies of the Presbyterian I church announce that they will give an oyster supper on Friday evening ! the 25th at ,, Happy” Cal Parish’s hostelry. The simple announcement ! that the supper is to be given at | ‘ Happy” Cal’s is enough to insure an enjoyable evening to all who at tend. J. R. Cooper has moved his jewelry repair shop into A. B. Gaines store, having rented a corner from Mr. Gaines. Mr. Cooper deserves and merits the patronage of the public, for he is courteous and endeavors to do the highest class of work at mod erate rates. President H. D. Wheat has placed a handsome iron fence around the mill property of the G ilfney Manu facturing Co., and it makes a great improvement The fencing was made from burned-out boiler fines that have been taken out of the boilers from time to time as they became useless, which g>.es to show how im portant it is to have a man at the head of a big enternrise who knows how to utilize the apparent waste product. The fence is more substan tial than a great deal of fencing that is offered on the market these days and is also a great deal more attrac tive. Lio You Want insurance ?
