After wrangling a {'renter portion of the day Monday over the constitu tionality of the jury law, Tuesday morning the case of the State va Augustus Mintz for the killing of • Doc” Bridges was taken up by mutual consent of all parties con cerned. All of Tuesday and a part of Wednesday was consumed in the taking of evidence. At the con elusion of the evidence the case was submitted to the jury without aigument by counsel. The judge’s charge was in strict accord with tii law. The jury retired and in about twenty minutes returned with a verdict of not guilty. And thus ended the case. In the afternoon the court was adjourned until Mon day wnen the civil eases on the com mon please docket will be taken up. The following is the report of the grand jury: State of South Carolina / County of Ciierukee. \ To His Honor Judge Earnest Gary, Trending J udge: We the grand jury beg leave to submi this our fioal raport for the fall term of court: We have passed on all bills handed us by the solicitor. Pursuant to instructions of the court at the last term, we met at tne court house on the first Monday in August to • xamine all the offices, book-, ' onds d county officers, and to perform oilier duties devolving upon us. We found the books of the different county officials neatly kept and en tirely satisfactory in every respect. We find that the safe that was re commended for the sheriff's office has rot >et been put in and we recom mend that it be done at once as it is very necessary. We have examined the bonds of the different county officers and find them all perfectly good. We have visited different parts of the county as to condition of roads and bridges and find them generally in good stiape with some few except ions. Wh have examin'd the poor house and find the inmates well cared for. We have examined all of the public buildings and find them in good shape. We find that our former recom mendation as to the closet at the jail has not been carried out and we re commend again that it be done at once as it is absolutely necessary.
