Tom Harris, colored, is in jail at
Spartanburg charged with *nurder
On Monday night near Glenn Springs
he had a row with Finnie Blanketock,
a woman with whom ho had been in
timate, end after calling her out of
the house where a frolic was going
on. shot her. She lived until Tues
day night.
Joe Waters, the 14 year-old son of
B L Waters, who lives near Flat
Rock church, j ist across the Bicker s
line, was drawing water from an Old
well about sixty feet deep contain-
. ing ten feet of water, when the de-
* ^ cayed flooring broke and he fell in,
fracturing his head against the rock
curbing in the well. The hoy died.
Tuesday afternoon John Odom shot
his wife and his step-son. Luther
Jones, at the Beed< O I mill in D ir-
lington. The man was shot in the
leg with buck shot and is seriously
hurt. The man who did the shooting,
John Odom, is in jail. The woman
is not seriously hurt. Jones went
to the assistance of his mother and
was shot by Odom.
Mrs. Mattie Hughes was to have
been tried at Greenville this wenk for
the killing of her husband. She was
living at Hpartanburg. being out on
bail. Last week she was arrested in
Spartanburg for retailing whiskey
and released on her own recognizance.

her store and • fTects. disguised her
self in male apparel and skipped

John Jones, colored, who is now
working out thirty days on the Aiken
chaingang. has caus< <1 a letter 10 be
written to Governor Candler of Geor
gia. It seems that Jones liked the
looks of a horse in Angus-a and took
it for his own, and then disposed of if
without asking the owner, and now a
requisition has been made by the
Governor of Georgia. Governor Vic-
(Sweeney will see that Jones is sent
to Georgia for trial for horse stealing.
The Governor has received a letter
from Mr Louis VV. Barton of Califor
nia. Missouri, inquiring if the Gov
ernor knows Mr Charles Clayton
The individual named represented
and proved himself to be a Mason
and borrowed money from the Gover
nor’s correspondent, who says that
the distinguished looking stranger
claimed acquaintance with the Gov
ernor of South Carolina. Mr. Barton

a genial, whole-souled young man

and acquaintances, and who had no

organization of mill men in this

The conference was harmonious,
