THE BROAD RIVER BRIDGE.
The Site Located and Hid* for its Krectlon
Are Now in Order.
The county commissioners met
atjain Wednesday at Black’s ferry on
Broad river and succeeded in locating
a site for the iron bridge. The place
selected is just above Black’s ferry,
and plans and specifications for the
same will bo received at the office of
the county commissioners, in the
court house until Wednesday April
2kh. On Thursday April 25th, bids
will be considered for the erection of
the bridge, and the contract let so
soon thereafter as bid is accepted by
the commissioners. The bridge
which is to be built of iron, is to con
sist of tinee spans of 150 feet each,
witli sixteen feet roadway, and sup
ported by four cylindrical piers. The
approaches to the bridge will be con
structed of the best oak timber.
This bridge will be a great conven
ience to the traveling public on both
sides of the river, and and one that
has been wanted and needed for a
long time. As soon as the contract
has been let it will only be a short
time until the bridge is in place, and
then the ferries nearby, which have
been doing a good business for such
a long time, will have to close up
shop. No one of course, is gloating
over that fact, but, at the same time,
all who have occasion to cross the
river anywhere near that point will
be glad to see the bridge in place.
A (hifTney Hoy In Cani'len.
John Daniel, a former Gaffney boy.
and a brother of Mrs. Ed Turner, of
our city, is now manager of the Cam
den Steam Laundry, at Camden.
The Camden Chronicle pays quite a
compliment to Mr. Daniel and the
work of his laundry in the following
paragraph:
“The laundry work now being done
at the Camden steam laundry is
equal to any done anywhere in thu
State, and far surpasses any work
that has been turned out there since
its advent here. Mr. Daniel, its
manager, thoroughly understands
the art, and it is his highest desire to
please his customers.”
John’s friends at this place are
glad to hear of his doing so well, and
wish him continued success.
An OraiiRt* T ree In UnfTney.
(>ur young friend Kyle Davenport
is the proud owner of something that
is quite a curiosity in this section of
the country, and a thing that lias
probably never been seen in (JafTney
before.
This rare object is an orange tree
covered with oranges. The tree is
seven years old, about three feet high
and has seven oranges, together with
several blossoms, on it. This is the
first time that the tree has borne
anything like matured fruit, and
some of the oranges on it now are as
large as a lemon and perfect in shape.
Kyle has the tree in a pot in his
house; he has tended it with his own
hands and justly prizes it very highly.
We are indebted to Kyle for some of
the fruit from his tree.

The people of Gaffney should not
forget the ‘ Old Maids Convention”
which is to be presented this evening
by the ladies of the First Baptist
church. The place where this inter

will be given is at the opera house,
and the hour, 8:110 o’clock. A large
number of the young ladies of Lime
stone College will attend the “Con
vention,” and the indications are
that the house will be crowded. The
proceeds of the entertainment will
go to the First church and the •peo
ple of Gaffney should give* a liberal
support to the worthy cause.
Remember—at the opera house to
night, at 8 ‘30 o’clock.

For L'oukIih and Colds In Children.
“I have not the slightest hesitancy
in recommending Chamberlain’s
Cough Remedy to all who are suffer

M. Cramer, Esq., a woll known watch
maker of Colombo. Ceylon. “It has
been some two years since the City
Dispensary first called my attention
to this valuable medicine and I have
repeatedly used it and it has always
been beneficial. It has cured me
quickly of all chest colds. It is es
pecially effective for children and sel
dom takes more than one bottle to
cure them of hoarseness. I have
persuaded many to try this valuable
medicine, and they are all as well
| pleased as myself over the results.”

Gentlemen:—This is to certify
that on account of rheumatism I have
