THE NEXT SHOW.
Itarlow Hr«M». Minstrels at The Opera
House Tuesday Micht.
Next Tuesday night the celebrated
Harlow Hroa. Minstrels will be the
attraction at the opera bouse. Thin
is one of the oldest minstrel organiza
tions on the road and is first-class in
every respect. They have with them
this year several noted minstrel per
formers and the entire program is
clean and bright. This company is
the same one that plays in Spartan
burg on Monday night and Charlotle
Wednesday night, showing here Tues
day night.' The Athens ((da.,) Daily
Banner has the following to say of
the Harlow Minstrels, they having
played in that city one night last
month:
‘•The old Athens favorites, Harlow
Hros Minstrels, gave two perform
ances in the city yesterday to splen
did houses and they came away ahead
of the high standard which had been
predicted for them by the press
Their company this season has many
old and many new faces, but the ag
gregation they have this year is de
cidedly away ahead of the previous
years.
The opening scene is one of splen
dor and magnificence and the revelry
of song and wit is truly delightful.
The baritone, Mr. Harle Wilson, is
simply phenomenal; no better sing
ing was ever heard in Athens, and Mr.
Wilson has won a high place in the
music, loving hearts of Athens. Also
the singing of Mr. C. Cameron, the
high tenor, deserves especial note, as
his voice is unusually sweet and
clot* r.
Mr. Frank E. McNish fully sus
tained himself as the minstrel mon
arch, and good judges of minstrelsy in
Athens say that his work is the best
ever seen in the city.
The specialists were all clean, new,
novel, interesting and strictly up-to-
date.
The Toledo Brothers are wonders
as contortionists and their make-up
as the crocodile and lizard excited
the admiration of all.
The Bonelli’s, the novelty trick
barrel jumpers, came in for a good
share of splendid work for the com
pany.
Last, but by no means least, are
Coburn and Baldwin, the musical
innovators. They made the audience
fairly roar at times, while again it
was open-mouthed in its astonish
ment of the wonderful versatility of
the two men with musical instru
ments. Indeed nothing better than
Mr. Baldwin's work has ever been
seen in Athens.
The entire company made a spien-
dia impression and should they visit
Athens Hiram, they will be given a
h-arty welcome and reception."

A tiafTuey Boy In Spartanbug.
In speaking of a business change
in Spartanburg the Journal of Wed
nesday says:
‘ Robt. C. Lipscomb, a well-known
young business man, has bought the
stock of Bishop Bros., and will con
tinue the fancy grocery, confectionery
and oyster business at the same
stand.”
•'Bob” went to Spartanburg several
rn nths ago to go in busims-t with his
hr ither-in-lar, Mr. Charlie Christ
man, who is now manager of the Spar-
lanburg branch of the Cudahy Pack
ing House. He is a young man of
pluck, energy and good business
judgment, and merits public pat
ronage. H>s friends in Gaffney hope
that success will attend his new ven
ture.
More Train* for the Southern.
A slight change of schedule will go
into effect on the Southern railway
Sunday and two more passenger
trains will be put on the road. Prob
ably none of the trains now running
will be affected by the change, unless
it he No. 11, the present night train
go’ng West. But of the two new
trains, one will go south in the morn
ing and the other north in the after
noon.
This will be a great convenience to
the people along the line of the
Southern, and it will give us at Gaff
ney two trains south in the morning
and three north in the afternoon.
Business men, especially, will ap
preciate the change.
Appointed Receiver
On Tuesday Mr. James A. Willis
received an appointment af temporary
receiver for the property of McCraw
Bros., bankrupts. The appointment
is quite a compliment to Mr. Willis,
inasmuch as it came without his
knowledge or solicitation. The ap
pointment was made by Mr. C. W.
F. Spencer, referee in bankruptcy.
Rock Hill. Mr. Willis is one of the
rising young attorneys of Gaffney and
there is a future, and a bright one at
that, before him.

GAFFNEY’S CANDIDATE.
I
For the Position of U, K. and P. Agent of i
the 8. C. A (I. K. It. It.
it may interest the many friends j
of Mr. Ed. Thomason who reside and
do business along the line of tiicS.
C. & G. E. R. R., to know that he is
an applicant for the position of gen
eral freight and passenger agent of
that road, the position being made
vacant by the death of the late Mr.
S. B. Lumpkin. It is said by Mr.
Thomason’s friends that he stands an
excellent show of receiving the ap
pointment. Mr. Thomason is at
present the genial, courtly and uc-
commodutiiig agent of the company
at this uiaco. He came to Gailney
several years ago from Shelby to suc
ceed the late Junius Hopper and by
his courtly manner ami general busi
ness ability has won his way into the
hearts of the people of Gaffney. Jr
is through his influence that the S.
C. & G. E. does more business at
this place than at. any other point
along the line. While everybody in
Gaffney who is acquainted with Ed.
Thomason would regret to lose him
as a citizen, there is not one of his
many friends who will not wish him
ultimate success in the position to
which he aspires.

Blood Poison
There is no poison so highly contagious,
so deceptive ami so destructive. Don’t he
too sure you are cured because all external
signs of the disease have disappeared, and
the doctor says you are well. Many per
sons have been dosed with Mercury and
Potash for months or years, and pro
nounced cured — to realize when too late
