See A Marriage of a Young Couple Wednesday Evening That Attracted Considerable At- tentlon-TheGroom Formerly of Newber ry Hut Now a Salesman for Carpet Mill. That little undressed son of Venus who goes about with little wings cropping out from his shoulders and aims his love*tipped arrow at those who were made for one another, has been getting in some very fine work in Gaffney recently, and it may be depended upon that results will fol low the dainty little fellow’s work. For some time there have been whis pers alloat to the effect that Postmas ter Folger was to lose his beautiful and accomplished assistant who pre sided over the general delivery win dow, and the whispers grew louder and louder until Wednesday evening when they became a reality. At 8:30 o’clock Mr. R. E. Leavell, lean ing on the arms of Revs. W. S. B. Ford and VV. H. Hodges, entered the beautiful parlor of Mr. and Mrs. A, R. N. Folger, on Grenard street. At the same time Miss Kaffe Folger, ar rayed in a becoming gown of white organdie, entered the parlor on the arm of her father. The assembled friends of the contracting parties were arranged about the room and Rev. Mr. Ford, assisted by Rev. Mr. Hodges, pronounced the words that made Miss Kate Folger Mrs. Robert Leavell. After the ceremony the couple received the congratulations of their many friends assembled. Mr. and Mrs. Leavell will board at the homo of the bride’s parents. Mr. Robert E. Leavell is a native of Newberry, and was, until he en gaged to travel for the Gaffney Car pet Manufacturing Co., a member of the successful mercantile firm of R. Y. Leavell & Co. He came to Gaff ney about a year ago to travel for the Gaffney Carpet Manufacturing Co., and by perseverance and affability has proven to be one of their most valued salesmen. He is a young gentleman of pleasant address and is connected by birth with some of the, very best South Carolina people. And what can we say of the bride? Nothing too good. She is the daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. A. R. N. Folger. She came to Gaffney several years ego with her parents from Pickens. She was then a mere child, but since her coming to Gaffney has developed into the loveliest of womanhood. Beautiful of face and figure, charm ing in manner and gentle in disposi tion, she is destined to make a model wife. The patrons of the postoffice will miss her smiling face and Post master Folger will miss her valuable assistance. SMITH HARDWARE CO. The Revival Mooting. The revival meeting at the Lime stone Street Methodist church still continues and large congregations at tend each service. Mr. Creech is preaching some very fine sermons and the interest docs not seem to abate. The moeung will in all probability continue until next Sun day evening and it is expected that the services Sunday morning and night will be the most interesting of tho entire meeting. Quite 11 number have made professions of faitii and large numbers go up every night for prayer. Wednesday evening Mr. Creech chose as his text Rev. 2:23. “I am he which searcheth tho hearts.’' After talking along this line for about forty minutes, sinners were called to tho alter and in a few minutes resembled tho old fashioned camp meeting. Christians were working in all quarters and sinners could be hoard crying out for meie/. At this ser vice tho alter was packed and when tho opportunity was offered to con fess many accepted Christ as their Savior. A Corn MliiM-klng, Our good friend, Sandow Northey, gave an old time corn shucking at his house Tuesday night There were thirty-three attendants and it took them until eleven o’clock to shuck tho huge pile of corn Mr. Northey had gathered. Mr. Nothey gives these corn shuckings annually and they are one of tho few remind ers of the days gone by as they al ways take a fellow back to the ante bellum times. Everybody that at tends a shucking or any other kind of a gathering at Mr. Northey’s al ways 'Mijoy themselves and this occa sion was no exception to the rule. A bountiful supper was served the shuckers after the shucking was con cluded, after which tlie gathering en gaged in sports of various kinds and listened to music on the banjo, or gan, etc. Now IL-II for tho Hvcoml llaptut Cluirch. The new bell for the Second Bap tist church arrived Tuesday and was put in Wednesday. It rang out last night for the first time calling people to the house of God. Tho hell is three feet across and is the largest church bell in Gaffney. It was or dered through tho Smith Hardware Co., and is listed at $110. The Sec ond Baptist congregation is nothing if not progressive and they may bo depended upon to keep up with the times in every respect. The Gaffney Live Stock Co., re ceived bids at Lancaster Tuesday for the erection of their large stables and sheds at this place, and awarded the contract to L. Baker, which in sures for them an up-to-date sub stantial building in the shortest possible time. The building is to be built on the lot purchased by them from Mr. A. N. Wood, next to J. G. Galloway & Go’s., and is to be of brick 06x150 feet. The main building is to be twojstories, with a wide arch entrance. On the right and left front will be the offices, with the stables to the rear. There will be twenty-nine stalls. In the second story there will be a large and commodious loft, with a living room at the front. Adjoining tho main building will be a large shed for the storing of buggies and supplies. The building is to be a modern one in every respect. The corporators of this company are all Lancaster men, with Mr. W. f. Gregory as president, and are men of well known business ability, having good business at Lancaster, Yorkville and other places along tho S. C. & G. E. R.
