REVIVALATSECOND CHURCH
Mr. Ford Kevins It Sunday JMornin|- With
a Strong Sermon
Rev. W. S. B. Ford, pastor of the
Second Baptist church, inaugurated
a revival meeting at hie church Sun
day morning. Mr. Ford preached a
strong sermon from Genesis the
12:13, “And he pitched his tent
toward Sodom.” Mr. Ford declared
that there wa> a time in the lives of
ail men when they were called upon
to decide some question that would
alfec r th"lr future welfare, aed in
this instance Lot had been called
upon to decide a question that would
hfi- ct his future life and he chose to
pitch his tent toward Sodom. There
wen many men who had lived since
the day of Lot that had been called
upon to decide this sums question
who had decided it just us he had
done. There were many characters
like Lot in this world. It was grand
and nobie ur.d inspiring to look at
such characters as Abrul am for they
were few, but characters mch as Lot
were common in this day and time.
Mr. F<qJ paid a glowing tribute to
the men who, by perseverence and
work, had become leaders in their rO'
spectiva line*’. No man had ever
achieved anything except by burning
the midnight oil. The sermon was
instructive and interesting.
The singing at this church is urn
questionably the best in town. It
may not possess any operatic airs
but it is full and free. The singers
open their mouths and the melody
rushes forth like a mountain stream
from its rugged confines. They
keep harmonious time and there is
something inspiring in the freedom
with which the sound rolls out. An
other thing that attracted tlie atten
tion of the reporter was that when
the minister gave out a hymn the
choir did not sing two verses and
quit, but sang the whole of it.
The meeting will continue for a
week or more as the interest may de
termine. Mr. Ford will be assisted
by several cf ihe local ministers dur
ing the meeting.

The (irent Show.
Not only have the newspapers of
New York city recently and again
emphasized the fact, hut it is gen
erally known throughout the breadth
of the whole land, as well, that the
Adam Foropaugh and Sells Brothers’
great consolidated shows, which are
to exhibit at Gastonia Thursday Oct.
ISlh, and at Spartanburg Friday Oct.
lUrh, far supasses any other similar
organization in the number of wild
beasts, amphibia, elephants, horses,
performing animals, riders, aerialists,
Horobats, clowns, leapers, charioteers,
jockeys, great artists and glorious
acts, and in the quantity and quality
of entertainment furnished for the
ordinary price of admission. Among
the most notable new prodigies in
troduced will be found Hassan All,
the Egyptian giant, said to be the
tallest man on earth, and for the past
two years a big feature with the Bar-
tm in and Bailey show in Loudon and
Great Britain. The number of prin
cipal male and female bareback liders
has been increased to nineteen; that
of the clowns to twenty-five, and in
the aerial and acrobatic departments
t icg additions are proportionately
large and brilliant. The grand double
street parade has been made still
more richly and uniquely attractive,
and in every direction still greater
elTort has been made and greater out
lay incurred to more than meet the
popular demand for cheap, whole
some, stirring and hilarious enter
tainment.

It stops falling of the womb,

all this drives away the
