Let us all rejoice together, for on August 22nd tc 25th, the First Bap tist church of Gaffney, with the hearty co-operation of the Second Baptist, Limestone and Providence churches will have the honor as well as the great pleasure of entertaining that grand body of righteous people, the Broad River Baptist Association, whose motto is “Christ” and whose banner of “Faith, Hope and Love” waves over the world. Gaffney will expect a large crowd from the sur rounding country on that occasion, it being the centennial anniversary of that God-favored and honored organi zation. The present delegation num bers over one hundred and fifty, be sides the centennial delegation of over sixty that is expected to be pres ent to represent the following churches: Tiger River, Boiling Springs. Friendship, Bildad, Union, Union County, Mt. Beehamah, Holly Sprfngs, Wolfs Creek, New Pros pect, Washington, Cross Roads, Phil adelphia, Head of Knoree, Mt. Zion, Sulphur Springs. Unity, Upper Fair Forest, Knoree. Union, York County, Mt. Lebanon, Sardis, New Prospect, Vorkville, Mt. Joy, Trough Shoals, Green’s Creek. Bagwell. “Rise and progress of the mission ary and temperance spirit in our As sociation,” paper by Rev. F. C. Hick son. Ten minute talks by the brethren on matters of their own choosing. We watch hope and wait. Arrcxmtl t.y oitii 'T Last .Saturday Officer Tom Gilmer arrested a colored individual who was prowling around on the back streets us though ashamed of his own iden tity. His description tallied in some respects with that of an escaped con vict for whom a reward of $50 had been offered by Coy. AJcSweeny, and he was taken in tow by Officer Gilmer and locked up to await investigation. He proved, however, not to be the right one, in this instance, and was released from custody. The negro gave his name as Gloster R. Munday, and claimed to have been a United States soldier during service in the Rhilippine Islands, but was discharged on account Qf ill health. His actions here were decidedly sus picious, and gave rise to the belief that he was guilty of some misde meanor and feared detection. No doubt be is “wanted” somewhere. of Mr, McUuInn. Mr. W. N. McGuinn died at his home at Converse, in Spartanburg county, Wednesday afternoon. He had been in failing health for a long time and suffered very much, at times being utterly helpless, Re leaves four sons and four daughters, among whom are Mr. L. W. McGuinn, of our city, and Mr. W. D. McGuinn, super intendent of The Altamuharn Mills in North Carolina The deceased was a gallant soldier in the Confederate war, and did his duty for four long years during the trying times of tlie sixties. He had the respect and esteem of the entire community in which he lived, and his death is a matter of regret to all who knew him.
