Miss Laura Parish, of Yorkville, is visiting her father here. Miss Annie Fowler, of Pacolet, is spending a few days with her sister, Mrs. O. A. Reeves, on Limestone street. Kyle Davenport and Sam L. Fort were among those who went to Char leston this week. Mrs. T. J. Alexander is visiting among relatives and friends iu Green ville this week. Mrs. J. Meek Smith, Mrs. Boyd L. Haines and Miss Alie Ross left yes terday for Waynesville, N. C., to spend a month or more iu the moun tains. Miss Lizzie Wood, who has been rusticating in the mountains of North Carolina for some time, returned to iier home here Wednesday. J. F. Kenny Baker and family, who have been visiting Alderman and Mrs. I Baker for some time, returned to their home in Prosperity yesterday L. W. McGuion spent Wednesday at Converse at the bedside of bis father who is seriously ill. Miss Mary Brown, Miss Mayme Humphries, Rev. B. P. Robertson, Tom L. Brown and Jones J. Darby returned yesterday from u very pleas ant trip to the B. Y. P. U., conven tion in Cincinnati, Ohio, and other interesting points in the northwest. Miss Grace Gibson, after spending several weeks with Mr. and Mrs. St. John Butler iu this city, re turned to her home in Columbia Tuesday. J. R. The Broad River Association will meet here August 22pd. Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Lipscomb moved into the new (Commercial Hotel Tuesday and will occupy rooms there in the future. Messrs. N. Hharp and C. Hippy, of the firm of Sharp <fc Hippy of Chero kee Falls, were in town yesterday selling cattle and buying goods for their establishment. B. F. Green, a gentleman of much experience in the market business, is now with L. W. McGuinu in his meat, market, and will be glad to serve any and all who may wish any thing in his line. Rev. W. W. Daniel, president of Columbia Female College, will preach in the graded school building next Sunday morning, and in the Presby terian church Sunday night. Every body lias a cordial invitation to be present at each service. The services of the First Baptist church will be held in tho city ball Sunday morning at 11 o’clock. The pastor will be present and he desires all the members to be with them. A special invitation is also extended to every one who may desire to attend. Minn Kendrick Kntcrtnin*. Miss Bessie Kendrick entertained with gracious hospitality a number of her friends at her home Tuesday night, complimentary to her friend and schoolmate, Miss Lizzie Dorrity, of Orangeburg. Delicious ices were served, and an evening of social pleasure and enjoyment was spent by those who were favored with an invi tation from Miss Kendrick.
