A large number of our people left the city yesterday to attend the Musical Festival in Spartanburg last night. We are pleased to note the presence of Mr. W. F. Brown at his plice of business after quite a severe attack of grip. We are glad to see our worthy fel low citizen, Mr. J. I). Goudelock, out again after a severe and protracted attack of grip. The congregation of the Limestone Street Presbyterian Church, has built a substantial and ornamental fence around the church grounds. Committeemen who have been col lecting money to pay for the Cowpens Battleground will please report at the court house next Monday morning at 10 o’clock. A light thunder cloud came out from the west yesterday afternoon and u light rain fell, but it was soon over, and hardly stopped people from out door work. ,, The new electric lights were turned on last night. They are the very lat- e t design and give a splendid light. We now have been ushered from darkness into light. Jefferies at his of fice in the court house. Landrum Spake is putting material on his lot, corner of Ji lleries and lohnson street*-, to build u handsome six room cottage. We learn tha* Mr. Spake will move to the city and < ecu iy his house himself. A charter has been issued to the Blacksburg Spinning arid Knitting Mill. Capitol stock is $15,000. A F. Whisonant, pro-ident; Win. An- do.'son, vice-president, and J. W. Duff, secretary and treasurer. We are g'ad to learn that Mr. J. O. Lipscomb, who went to Hot Springs, Ark., some weeks ago to be treated for rheumatism, is being much benefitted by the treatment and is apparently on the road to speedy recovery. The secretary of the treasury, on Monday, sent to the senate, in reply to a resolution, a statement showing that there was due South Carolina from the goverrment $178 938. grow ing out of the claims of the Indian and Florida wars. The Macedonia Democratic Club met and organized lust Saturday. A. Harris was elected president, L B Davis, vice-president and E P Itich- arils secretary. A. H :rr s W. 1) Byars and J. L. A few d-iys ago after the flat at How el’s ferry w as washed away The Ledger was informed by one of the most prominent men in that se'tion. and one who is usually well informed that t he owner of the ferry would probably not build a now one. We now have a letter from the owner of the ferry saying, he has placed an order for a new Hat and that ho will have it running as soon as possible. The S. C. & G. E. Railroad has about completed a spur from its main line out to the site where the Lime stone cotton mill is being built. Ihe S. G. & G. E. people have been very prompt in this work which will give the mill people the advantage of a railroad truck to their site almost from the beginning. No one kt o a h better how to appreciate and utilize such advantages than does the man ager of tiffs new enterprise, as will be evinced by the rapidity with which tb ir mill will be built. Last Tuesday Officers Hallman and Gilmer received a circular advertising a horse and buggy which had been hired in Greenville by W. M. Tanner to a man who said his name was Orr. I i a short time they located the h rse and buggy in Cline Brothers’ stable where it had been sold tome days before to the Messrs. Clines’ by h n a i who gave his name as Bob McAllister. McAllister left on the m xt north bound (rain and was last heard of at Bessemer City, N..C. Mr. Tanner sent and got his prop erly. McAllister, who gave his right name here, turns out to be a Greet • ville county mon, is gone, and the Messrs. Clines are short the price they paid for the horse nnd buggy. Question Answered. The time for the great Musical Festival draws near and the citizens of Gaffney will have the opportunity to prove their loyalty to a home en terprise. This Festival will make Goffney tiie artistic center of the Slate this next week, therefore it is important that our people should realize the fact, and give it their most generous support. Let everyone do his part in making the Festival a great success. Is is reported that large parties are coining from the surrounding towns. A special train will be run over the S. C. & G. E. from Blacksburg to Gaffney on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon* at 5 :30 o’clock, reaching here in time for the concerts. On Wednesday night, immediately after the concert, the train will leave for all points on that I’oad. By this ar rangement all parties living along that line will be able to reach their homes that night. Everything is being put In readi ness at Jthe college for the Festival. Electric arc lights are be«ng placed at the entrance to the campus. The auditorium stage has been es pecially arranged in order that the chorus can bo seated to the best ad vantage. The artists will arrive Monday night ar (1 Tuesday morning. Every thing is in readiness. Let us make it the greatest event in the history of Gaffney and Limestone College.
