CHORAL CLUB CONCERT.
A Delightful Mufthal I’rograin Delighfully
lteu<lere<l.
Tuesday evenint' the Limestone
Musical Club gave its first public
concert in the college auditorium.
The club is a most praise-worthy or
ganization, composed of the best mu
sicians in the city and college. They
are banded together for the purpose
of serious study of the great com
posers and their works, thus planting
more deeply within themselves the
love and appreciation of all that is
great and good in music.
This concert brought forward some
of the best pianists and vocalists in a
well selected and admirably arranged
program. Misses McArthur, Jones
and Steedly appeared as piano solo
ists. This was the first appearance
of Misses McArthur and Jones before
a (iallney audience and they both
proved themselves excellent pianists
interpreting their numbers in a mu-
sicianly manner. Miss Steedly is al
ways a favorite with a Gaffney audi
ence and her work here, as one pre
vious occasions, gave great pleasure
Miss Griffith and Mr. Brown played
for the opening number Brahm’s
Waltze? in a finished and artistic
manner.
Misses McArthur, Jones, Griffith
and Corry gave Schubert’s March
Militaire for the closing number. It
is a brilliant march movement and
they gave it an inspiring perform
ance.
The vocul part of the program
brought forward Gaffney’s best
known singers. Both Miss Carroll
and Mrs. W'estrope have oflen been
beard here, but their well trained
voices never fail to give pleasure.
Mrs. Gaffney was to have appeared
as soloist hut owing to a cold was
prevented from doing so.
Kspecial mention must be made
of liotoli’s trio ‘‘Forget me not,”
sung by Miss Carroll. Mrs. Copeland,
and Mrs. Gaffney, whose voices blend
ed beautifully and which they sang
charmingly.
Mrs. Grace Battis Brown also ap
peared as soloist and her fine voice,
which she so well knows how to use,
gave great pleasure. The encore
“Daddy,” which she so soulfully
sang, visibly affected many in the
audience.
By general request Mr. and Mrs.
Brown added to the program Dennee’s
“Oh moment that I bless,” which
was so well received at the first
teacher's recital.
The audience was lavish with its
applause, many of the numbers being
encored, and the concert evidently
gave much pi isure to all present.

a few days in Spartanburg this week.

taken place last Friday evening hut
was postponed, began promptly at

If the ground was a little wet,
many plows were started Wednesday
afternoon. If the weather continues
favorable the farms will soon be in
such nice shape that one not acquain
ted with the circumstances would not
suspect the untoward conditions of
the last few weeks. Of course farm
work is behind hut still it is gelling
olT earlier than last year when there
was scarcely a furrow made before
the 1th of April.
A Ni iv Kuterpra t*
John L. Alexander, has ordered a
complete outfit of machinery for an
up-to-date bottling establishment
which will arrive in a short time.
Mr. Alexander is rearranging his
business place on Granard street,
and will have a portion in shape for
his bottling machinery when it arrives.
Mr Alexander will handle soda
water.
