G. Clary, corner of Buford and Johnson streets. Shields Allison, one of the county’s very best farmers was a city visitor Tuesday. Charles A. Fetly of this place, a prominent cotton buyer, whoj.has been buying cotton at Orangeburg this winter, is at home now and will spend the summer here. Charley is as genial as ever and is having a good time with relatives and friends. County Commissioner Alfred Har ris was in the city Tuesday on offi cial business. Allie Osborne, of Blacksburg, one of the county’s promising young men, spent some time in the city Wednes day. C. C. Webber, of Buffalo, over the Broad, called to see The Ledger yes terday while in the city on business, Jesse Pinson, a prominent business man and farmer of Thickety, made a business trip to the city Tuesday. C. P. Huggins, Esq., of Lawn, was in the city a short while yesterday. County Commissioner R. E. The county chain-gang now has just twenty convicts on it. Come out to the Cowpens meeting in the court house tomorrow. Mail trains on the Southern failed to be on time several times this week. Be sure to be at the Cowpens meeting in the court house tomor row. Airs. H. F. Pridmore will be with O. E. Wilkins’ big cash store on and after April 1st. Work seems to be progressing rapidly now on the Buford Street Methodist church. W. W. Gaffney was in Blacksburg last week organizing a Lodge of Woodmen of the World. When will the jail lot be fenced and otherwise improved so as to give it a somewhat homelike appearance? Crunty Commissioners will meet on next Monday in the county super visors office. A full attendance is desired. Tne many friends of Mrs. W. II. Pierson will be glad to know that she is slowly improving after a sever spell of the gripp. Col. T. J. Moore, of Moore’s, Spar tanburg county, has bought the saw millmachinery of Mr. C. M. Amos at State Line, in this county. The many friends of Mr. J. J. Warren, who has been confined at his home for along time by sickness, are glad to see him on the streets again. J. W. Bridges has sold his interest in the Galloway building on Limestone street to M. L. Ross, and has bought one of Mr. Ross’ handsome residences on Logan street, which he will soon occupy himself. Mrs. Dora Hopper has rented her handsome Jefferies street home to Mr. J. L. McWhorter and has taken the attractive second floor apartment in the Wood block corner of Lime stone and Frederick street. B. S. Lipscomb, after spending the winter as civi’ engineeronthe newwork of the Seaboard Railroad in the eastern part of the state, will engage in far ming the balance of the year. Bar ney will be one of his best hands. 8. L. Hobbs, who has been associa ted with Mr. Parish since betook charge of the Lipscomb Hotel, lias returned to his home in Yorkville. Mr. Hobbs made many friends while in Gaffney who regret his leaving us. Mr. Oscar Reeves, riceivfd a tele gram Wednesday evening stating that his father, who lives at Pacolet Mills, was critically ill. Mr. and Mrs. Reeves left on the first train for his father’s home, and we hope found him improved. The store of Mr. J. G. Hames. near Grindal, was broken open last Sunday night and robbed of quite a lot of goods. The thieves were tracked some distance and one arrest was made, but at last account none oi the goods had been recovered. A recent act of the General Assem bly has made it obligatory on the county to furnish the county officers with postage and stationary. This being the case we suggest that all the stationary have cuts of the county court house and jail on it. Dr. 1 ^ee Davis Lodge, the scholarly president of the Limestone College, occupied the pulpit of the Shelby Baptist church Sunday morning and delivered a masterly discourse. He is an attractive, pleasing speaker and always entertains, instructs and edi fies.—Cleveland Star. Cliani;<‘ of quarters. Within the last few days some of the county officers at the court house have been swapping offices. What was formerly used as the clerk’s office is now occupied by Sheriff Thomas and Auditor Camp, and the office they formerly used is occupied by Clerk Jefferies. This move was made in order that Clerk Jefferies might also get the use of an adjoining room. The clerk of the court has hand some furniture for his apartment but to a casual observer it appears that necessities even have been witheld from some of the other officers. Dul're Han Kntlre Charge of the Sale of Seat*. The season tickets for the Alusic Festival will be placed on sale Alon- day morning, April 2nd, at A. B. Gaines’ furniture and art store. The entire management of the sale will be in the hands of Air. W. B. DuPre. Air. DuPre has had years of experience in handling concert and theartical attractions and the exe cutive committee has acted wisely in securing him to manage this im portant part of the festival work. The season ticket with reserved seat admitting to the three concerts will be sold for $2.50 if purchased be fore April 24th. After that date all tickets will be $1.00 for each concert No single admissions can be re served until the season ticket sale has been concluded. The details of the festival are rap idly being arranged. The last artist has been definitely engaged and the advertising matter will soon be ready to send out. The festival will be thoroughly advertised in South and North Carolina and the many attractions of the festival, together with the low rates granted by the railroads, will bring an immense crowd of visitors to our city at that time. No citizen of Gaffney can refrain from supporting such a worthy ob ject meaning as it does so much for the upbuilding of the city. The Alanufacturer’s Record is in receipt of numerous complaints from Florida, Georgia and the Caroliuas from people who claim to have sub scribed for a “Weekly Record’’ which they say they thought was the Alan ufacturer’s Record. The receipts which they semi show that a written receipt for one dollar is given “for Weekly Record for one year,’’ and m some cases for “one set of knives and forks.’’ The Manufacturer’s Record knows nothing about the matter; has never before heard of the man who Is col lecting this money, and does not know where the “Weekly Record’’ is published. So far as we know, there mav he such a paper, hut if anyone is doing this work, claiming to repre sent the Alanufacturers’ Record, he is a fraud.
