INTEREST GROWING
IN REVIVAL MEETING
Mr. Leitch Preached Three
Sermons Sunday.
MANY ASK FOR PRAYER
The IC\uii|Lelist Tulk» Plainly AImiuI Cluireli
Members Who (in to the Theatre liisteail
of Attending a Keligioini Hervlee Mr.
MarshaU's Singing.
Rot. Torn Leitch preached three
times Sunday in the Limestone Street
Methodist church to Jarge congrega
tions. The meeting is going on this
week with two services a day, at 3
and 8 p. m.
The meeting is growing in interest
every day, and we trust that the ben
efit to our people will be commensu
rate with the wonderful effects this
distinguished evangelist is making.
An interesting feature of the meet*
ing is the sweet singing of Mr. Mar
shall.
Sunday morning Mr. Leitch
preached from Revelations 3:20:
‘•Rehold I stand at the door and
knock.” He stated that it was his
belief that God seldom, if ever,
kocked at the door of a sinner’s lieart
more than three times. In the lives
of many persons the holy spirit
knocked but once and if rejected He
departed never to knock again.
There was a strangeness connected
with the figure three in the word of
God. There were three persons in
the God-head—Father, Son and Holy
Ghost, and all along through the
whole of the word of God there was
evidence that the figure three was
more singular than any other figure.
Mr. Leitch took occasion to pay his
respects to the church members who
professed religion and would go to a
theatre to witness un-Godly men and
women make spectacles of them
selves instead of going to a revival
meeting where an effort was being
made to save sinners. “Such con
duct,” he declared, “is enough to
make a mule kick his shoes off.”
In the afternoon the evangelist
ciiose as his text Luke 11:13: “If
ye then, know how to give good gifts
unto your children; how much more
shall your heavenly Father give the
Holy Spirit to them that ask him.”
The subject was “the difference be
tween our wants and our needs,”
In the evening the text was taken
from the first clause of the 24th and
2iith verses of the first chapter of
Froverbs, and read as follows: “lie-
cause I have called and ye have re
fused 1 will laugh at your calamity.”
Jiefore entering upon the discourse
Mr. Leitch took occasion to make
some complimentary allusions to
Gaffney and her people and noted
with pride htr phenominal growth in
business and population since his
last visit, which was about twelve
years ago. He expressed the hope
that the town had grown in C .ris-
tian influence as well as in a material
way. He remembered his former
visit with pleasure and had met some
of the good people during this visit
who hixl been redeemed by God from
their sins under his ministry while
here before who were yet true to the
cause of Christ.
The theme of the evening discourse
was “God calls in four different ways
—by the Holy Spirit, by His Word,
by the ministry and providentially.”
The sermon was replete with interest
ing incidents taken from life and
held the undivided attention of the
large concourse of people until the
close. At the end of the sermon
fifty-three people signified their de
sire for prayer in their behalf by aris
ing to their feet in answer to the in
vitation extended.

What has become of the Business
Men’s Association of Gaffney? Some
months ago it was organized with a
considerable flourish of trumpets.
The members brightened up and the
officers seemed enthusiastic, big
things were mapped out, much mat
ter for publication was prepared and
the time seemed close at hand when
organized intelligent movements
would begin. Rut organization and
a few complimentary newspaper para
graphs seemed to be glory enough
and the whole thing collapsed into a
state of innocuous disuetude.
Organized efforts have done much
in other cities and if intellegently
directed Cherokee county and Gaff
ney are rich fields for it. Our State
has no bureau of information, it is
therefore imperative, that the coun
ties and cities take the matter up and
go to work.
Let Gaffney try again.

RICH TREAT FOR STUDENTS.
Mrs. <;<•■■< ml 1‘lckett. Widow of th
Gettynhiiru, to Vixit I.lines tour
Mrs La Halle Corbett Fickett, widow
of the immortal Major General George
E. Fickett, who led the famous charge
at Gettysburg “while all the world
wondered,” has kindly consented to
spend sometime at Limestone College
during the next college session, when
she will give to the students her ex
perience during the war between the
States and will give direction to their
historical researches along certain
lines upon which she is particularly
well qualified to speak with author
ity. Mrs. Fickett will supplement in
a delightful way the instruction
given ir the Winnie Davis School of
History. She has herself made his
torical investigations of great value
and importance. Her thrilling book,
Pickett and His Men, a volume which
should be in the home just as its sub
ject is in the heart of every true
southerner throughout the length
and breadth of the land, contains the
fruits of seme of her studies.
It is a priceless privilege which
the students of Limestone College
will enjoy next session in thus com
ing into personal contact with one of
the noblest, most gracious and most
accomplished types of the woman
hood of the “Old South.”
It is the policy of Limestone Col
lege to secure for its students the in
estimable benefit which comes from
association with ^ le great leaders of
southern thought and with the at
tractive personalities which are the
bright, consummate flower of south
ern life. The girls of Limestone next
session will, in their association with
Mrs. Fickett, have an experience
which they will remember with de
light as long as they live. Limestone
has many other iich treats in store
for the students who enter her por
tals next session.

Work Will Soon It.^in.
Messrs. J. A* Carroll and E. R.
Cash, who have been North to purchase
machinery for the Limestone cotton
mill to be built at this place, return
ed to the city Sunday. They bought
the full machinery for a .1*200,000
yarn and cloth mill and it will arrive
in Gaffney in September. Work on
the site for this mill has already be
gun and work on the mill will be
commenced at once, and prosecuted
with the usual vigor of the promo
ters, so as to have it ready for the
machinery when it arrives,
The machinery for the new mill
consists of the very latest and best in
cotton mill machinery. Ten thou
sand spindles were purchai-ed from
the Lowell Machine Shops, 3<kJ looms
and 2.500 twister spindles from the
Draper Co., Hopedale, Mass. The
picker was purchased from the Kitson
Machine Co., and the Den warper
from a Fhiladelphia firm.
Mr. Carroll was seen by a Ledger
representative yesterday and he
spoke most enthusiastically concern
ing the new mill and his visit North.
While absent he succeeded in getting
a number of Northern men interested
in the new enterprise. The money
market is easy and they found no dif
ficulty m getting business men inter
ested in Gaffney’s new mill. There
was snow on the ground when they
started home.

Mr. R. R. Davis has on foot a
scheme to establish a telephone line
from Gaffney toHarratt, in the lower
part of the county. There will be
about six ’phones on the line, one
each of the following places: Web
ster, Dawkin’s Mill. Asbury, Gowdey-
ville and flarratt. This is a commen
dable enterprise on the part of Mr
Davis and he should be encouraged
in it in a substantia! manner. The
line will be of benefit to all the peo
ple in the lower section of the county
as well as the people of Gaffney and
we hope to see it established at an
early day. Messrs. W. J. Fridmore.
H. E. Jefferies. Jas. Hparks, T. D.
Littlejohn and R. W. Davis will take
subscriptions for the new line in their
respective neighborhoods and D. A.
Thomas for Gaffney.

A startling incident, of which Mr.
John Oliver of Fhiladelphia, was the
subject, is narrated by him as follows :
‘T was in a most dreadful condition.
My skin was almost yellow eyes sunk
en, tongue coated, pain continually
in my back and sides, no appetite—
gradually grow ing weaker day by day.
Three physicians hud given me up.
Fortunately, a friend advised trying
Electric Ritters: and to my great joy
and surprise, the first bottle made
a decided improvement. I continued
their use for three works, and am
now a well man. I know they saved
my life, and robbed the grave of
another victim.” No one should fail
